JULIANA GOODWIN PHOTOS BY DEAN CURTIS

T

wo hundred years ago when Newton County was settled, the produce was organic, the meat

was wild and free range, and elk was plentiful.

Joseph Morgan believes everyone should get back to that natural way of life and at his Boardwalk Café in downtown Jasper, the menu features organic produce, wild edibles, free-range meats and most notably elk. They also own an 83-year-old historic inn.

Joseph and Janet Morgan opened the solar-powered restaurant 12 years ago and say it was ahead of its time, yet rooted in the past. Janet Morgan’s mother and grandfather owned a restaurant in Oklahoma City, so she had experience in the food industry. The Morgans own a farm and grow organic produce for the Boardwalk Café, but they also buy from 35 area farmers helping to support the local economy.

The grand entryway to the Arkansas House is just one example of the beautiful craftsmanship in the facilities construction.
