Dunblane Centre Youth News

Hi everyone! Firstly for those of you don’t know who I am, my name’s Leigh and as Gemma has already mentioned I’m the Centre’s new youth worker. I’ve been involved with the centre in lots of diff erent ways over the past few years and I’m very excited about leading our work with young people. I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone a little better and also meeting new faces as I help the Centre branch out with its youth activities.

Just because we’ve been without a youth worker for a wee while though, it doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy doing stuff ! Our P5 – P7 youth clubs are now more popular than ever: among the usual madness this term we have run a tug a war

competition, Easter egg bingo and our three ball pool challenge. Our junior volunteers have also taken a lead in running activities such as basketball, badminton and football in our sports hall, they’re a huge asset to us and we simply could not run youth club without them. We are however looking for more adult volunteers for youth club. If you could give a couple of hours once a week, fortnight or even a month, it would be greatly appreciated; please drop me an e-mail if you’re interested.

We also ran our fi rst P7 sleepover in March with over 45 young people attending; what an awesome night we had! A giant bouncy castle, human hungry hippos and toasting marshmallows were among my personal favourite parts of the night. I’m not sure how many of us actually slept during it but everyone had a great time and we’ll defi nitely look at repeating this again in the future. I’d also just like to say a massive thank to all the staff and volunteers who gave up their time to support the event.

Finally, as I write this, our Easter holiday programme has just started but we’ve already been planning our summer programme, which will be out in the next edition of theWire and circulated to schools in June. That’s it for now. We hope to see you all at the Centre every soon. In the meantime, to keep up to date with what’s going on at the Centre youth wise, why not follow us on Instagram?
