groups and local businesses to our multiple events to raise money. The PTA pledged £14,500 and we put forward £66,500 from our revenue surplus and capital income. We also sought funding from Central Bedfordshire Council, which was able to offer an amazing £30,000, as well as the Bedford Education Association, which awarded us £5,000. All in all, we managed to raise a fantastic £116,000 through these efforts. Our town has a wonderful sense of community

two new classrooms’ ‘Our school needed to secure funding to replace our mobile classroom, so we looked into applying for the Condition Improvement Fund from the Education Funding Agency. The EFA expects  contributions to support their projects, so it was important that we sourced money from elsewhere if we were going to be successful. We decided to launch the “Fund It” campaign, and the school invited families, community

spirit, and over the years we have established strong links with community groups and businesses that have helped us generate funds for school projects. For this particular project, we worked in partnership with Cube Building Consultancy, which acted as a bid and project partner. It provided design drawings for the parents and children to view, and was very supportive in preparing the technical elements of our bid. The company also attended our fundraising events to help with our presentations. After a lot of hard work and two failed

applications to the EFA’s fund, in March 2016 we received the fabulous news that our bid had been successful! We received an amazing £112,000. This funding, together with some of the £116,000 raised, has gone towards building the classroom, and the remaining money has been spent on classroom furnishings.’ Celia Bennett, School Business Manager, The Firs Lower School, Ampthill, Bedfordshire (295 pupils)
