JUSTIN SMITH is Managing Director of
Summer 2017 My daughter’s secondary school recently held a workshop for parents on adopting a ‘positive growth mindset’. With an emphasis on moving from ‘I can’t do it’ to ‘I can’t do it YET’, I couldn’t help pondering how to get school leaders to adopt this mantra with regard to income generation. While a lack of something new, I think you’d agree that there’s a cost to doing nothing.

SUZANNA DREW-
EDWARDS has been a freelance journalist for the past 25 years and has written about education, health
and parenting, among other things. She started her journalism career by writing about second-hand cars for The Telegraph. Suzanna’s one experience of teaching was running after-school dress-making classes for teenagers.
MATT RIDOUT is Content Editor at
JustGiving, the world’s leading online giving platform. Matt is well-versed in all
aspects of digital fundraising, including campaign creation, event fundraising and crowdfunding. He is passionate about helping schools explore new methods of income generation and writes regular blogs on the subject.
RACHEL GORDON heads up the School
Funding Service, which helps schools across the UK secure grants for a range of projects, from
sports equipment to extended services. She writes bids for schools and advises them on how to maximise their funding potential. Rachel has written for numerous publications, including Headteacher Update and SecEd.
HOWARD ROSE is Director of Funding
and Publicity at Balsall Common Primary School. He secures grants, sponsorship and
support from businesses to enhance teaching and learning. In 2014, Balsall Common Primary School was judged outstanding by Ofsted and, in 2015, he won a Chamber of Commerce Education and Business Partnership Award.
HAYLEY DUNN is Business Manager at
Windmill Primary School in Telford and a NASBM Fellow. As a certified accountant, finance is
her passion. Hayley believes there is great potential for income generation and fundraising in schools and loves being part of projects that deliver value to pupils, whether by providing money, resources or life experiences.
