SOUTHWEST DISTRICT #11 Marvin Manring, MMEA District President


SWMMEA enjoyed outstanding attendance of nearly 75 teachers at the Saturday morning District Business Meeting during the 79th Conference. District 11 is wrapping up a successful year of honor ensemble events. Along with reports from each of the vice-presidents, the meeting concentrated on breakout sessions (instrumental and vocal) to discuss fall activity dates, locations, and clinicians.


Spring mentoring events for first and second year teachers will be held to concentrate on festival preparation.


The Board will meet in late May to set the final calendar for 2017-2018, take nominations for the 2018-2020 slate of officers, and organize our fall meeting, which is scheduled for Saturday, August 19 at Webb City High School.


Tentative activities for the August meeting include an update from MSHSAA and a workshop focused on writing Unit of Instruction assessments. A reading session for concert band is planned, as well as yet another attempt at a golf outing at MMEA’s home course, Schifferdecker Park in Joplin.
