Ilkeston is to get a more luxurious and frequent bus service thanks to a £150,000 investment by trentbarton in extra vehicles. The ‘ilkeston flyer’, which runs

minutes instead of the current 20 minute frequency. The move has created six new driver jobs, taking the driving team to 15-strong. The fleet will have superfast free wifi and USB power, comfy seats and air con for a premium passenger experience.
Trentbarton took some of the
revamped buses to Ilkeston’s Market Place to show local people what they have to look forward to. Erewash MP Maggie Throup and
Mayor of Erewash Councillor Abey Stevenson were welcomed to the
party by trentbarton Managing Director Jeff Counsell. Jeff said: “ilkeston flyer has been an important link
for local people for many years, whether travelling to work or play in Derby and beyond. By increasing its frequency to every 15 minutes and packing the buses with hi-tech creature comforts we’re giving customers a new level of experience.”
Tom Carter with students from Vision Studio School Pupils get Vision for the future
Pupils at Vision Studio School in Mansfield have sought useful online careers advice, joining thousands of other students in an attempted Guinness World Record challenge. Created by The East and West Midlands Apprenticeship Ambassador Network, Workpays and GetMyFirstJob, The Big Assembly aimed to set the record for the largest online careers advice seminar ever. Schools, young people, careers
advisers and employers from across the nation logged online at 8.45am in a live video streamed to thousands across the UK wanting to find out more about apprenticeships and career options post-16. The event was introduced by
Apprenticeships and Skills Minister Robert Halfon and featured films of and by apprentices and questions and answers with experts. The aim was to get more than
5,000 log-ins and to set a new Guinness World Records title in the
process. It didn’t quite get that many, but more than doubled the target for the number of young people who actually watched it – topping 10,000. Personal Coach at Vision Studio
School, Tom Carter, said: “Students are starting to engage in this kind of technology more and more – it’s a useful way of hitting a broader audience. We do have assemblies on careers guidance and I think more sessions like this, which could last longer, would be really useful.”
