No need to suffer in silence, says local charity


The Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Mohammed Saghir, has led a hearing screening test at Loxley House, Nottingham City Council offices, to mark World Hearing Day. As well as marking World


Hearing Day, the hearing screening, organised by Nottingham charity The Ear Foundation, launched an awareness campaign to highlight how important it is for people to look after their hearing. Councillor Mohammed Saghir


said: “People in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire have a fantastic network of hearing services available on their doorstep and we were delighted to have the opportunity to encourage people on World Hearing Day to access these services and make their hearing a priority.”


Solicitors raise funds for new cancer centre


Chesterfield law firm BRM Solicitors has raised £18,874 for the Macmillan appeal, which aims to raise £2.5m to help build the NGS Macmillan Unit Appeal at Chesterfield Royal Hospital. The firm ran a free will writing initiative during September and October 2016. To support the appeal, BRM


Solicitors offered to write clients’ wills for free during the two months and waived their fees, encouraging clients to make a cash donation of £54 for a single will and £108 for a double will to Macmillan for the service. The scheme has run for two


years and has so far raised £28,616 for the Macmillan Appeal.


Business gets behind Hospital’s Big Appeal


Staff at Notts Energy Supplier Yu Energy are backing Nottingham Hospitals Charity’s Big Appeal to raise money for young patients at Nottingham Children’s Hospital. The company, which supplies


gas and electricity to business customers across the UK, already has a team of five signed up for the Asda Foundation Nottingham 10k race in May. The company is planning


other activities where colleagues can – for a small donation - challenge the Fantastic Five at office twister, Bop It or a spelling bee.


Winners are rewarded with


extra breaks and early leave passes. Staff will also be granted leave to volunteer for the charity.

Midlands accountancy firm PKF Cooper Parry has become an official partner of The Prince’s Trust, pledging £25,000 to the youth charity. As a Prince’s Trust supporter, the

Record pledges for LOROS’ challenge


A record number of teams have already pledged to take part in this year’s LOROS Accumulator Challenge, which will see participants compete to see how far they can grow £50. With over 30 teams signed up so


far, the competition to see who is niftiest is definitely on, with schools, businesses and organisations alike taking on the challenge this spring. Each team will be given £50 by


LOROS, before they spend the next three months seeing how much they can turn it into. JLT partner with Macmillan


Insurance and risk management advisers JLT Specialty, which has offices in Birmingham and Nottingham, partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support in 2016. The campaign was launched


with the hope of raising £53,000 to fund a Macmillan nurse for a year and to help manage the growing costs of caring for people affected by cancer. With all the initiatives completed, the partners and staff recently presented a cheque for £53,021. Sally Swann, Head of JLT Midlands region, said: “When you have cancer, you don’t just worry about what will happen to your body, you worry about what will happen to your life. “At Macmillan, they know


how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything and they are there to provide support.”
