Chamber to sponsor Derby Book Festival


The Chamber will once again be a sponsor of the Derby Book Festival, which returns for a third year and will feature over 70 events featuring great writers, poets, historians, politicians, illustrators, storytellers and musicians. The Festival aims to bring together


Derby residents in a love of books and to inspire a new generation of readers. The programme will be launched at Chamber member QUAD on 11 April at a free – but ticketed – Derby Reads event. The Festival itself runs from 9-17 June. QUAD will again be the main


Festival Box Office and will host many of the exciting Festival events, but events will also be held at venues across the city including Déda, Derby Theatre, Guildhall Theatre, Cathedral Quarter Hotel and Derby Cathedral. The Opening Event features author Sebastian Faulks in


conversation with James Naughtie, who returns to the Festival for a third time, in Derby Cathedral on 9 June. The 2017 Festival will look to


build on the success of last year’s event, which saw more than 70


events held at 43 venues, with 12 sold out events. Over 10,000 people participated and 95% of participants rated the events as ‘Excellent’ or ‘Very good’. The Festival is chaired by Liz


Fothergill CBE, the former High Sheriff of Derbyshire and Chairman of Pennine Healthcare and a past President of the Chamber. Liz, who is a keen reader and originally trained as a librarian, said: “The success of our first two
