LANDMARK TIDAL TURBINE INSTALLATION


Cornish-based Mojo Maritime retains its world-leading position in wave and tidal energy, with a landmark tidal turbine installation at MeyGen in Scotland and selection to provide engineering services to GWave, who are installing at WaveHub


Falmouth based tidal and wave energy specialists Mojo Maritime Limited are rebranding to James Fisher Marine Services Ltd (JFMS), following their acquisition by James Fisher in 2015, whilst at the same time advancing their world-leading position in wave and tidal energy, with two recent landmark wave and tidal projects.


PRIMARE CONFERENCE


Among the objectives of the consortium is to promote collaboration and knowledge sharing in a multilevel approach between PhD students, junior and senior researchers and industry. PRIMaRE does this mainly through the annual conference and Key Challenge Workshops together with other organisations. The conference provides a forum for exchanging latest research & development and fostering collaborations in Marine Renewable Energy. It covers a wide range of topics in MRE, including…

It is an opportunity for the network to showcase research conducted among the different partner institutions, the industry and the wider academic sector. The 4th PRIMaRE Conference will take place at the University of Southampton on the 6th and 7th of July 2017.


Partnership for Research in Marine Renewable Energy


WORLD LEADING TIDAL ARRAY CONSTRUCTOR


Earlier this year, Mojo completed its landmark 15th tidal turbine installation, cementing its reputation as a world leading tidal array constructor. The milestone installation was completed at the MeyGen tidal energy site, located in the Inner Sound of the Pentland Firth, Scotland. It is the fourth and final tidal turbine installation for phase 1a of the MeyGen project, for which JFMS was awarded principal contractor status two years ago.


John Goddard, JFMS’s senior project manager, commented on the achievement: “Not only have we hit a monumental milestone as a company, we have completed installation of the 4th tidal turbine at MeyGen. MeyGen has been a fantastic, innovative and forward thinking project to work on and we’re excited for what the future holds!”


PROJECT ENGINEERING SERVICES


Mojo has also been selected to provide project engineering services for GWave’s inaugural Power Generation Vessel (PGV) installation, the first wave energy device of its kind to be used in Europe. Based in Maine, USA, GWave has spent the past decade developing the PGV, which will have a rated capacity of 9MW. Mojo will help deliver the project at the WaveHub


site in Cornwall, chosen because of its strong wave resource, infrastructure and local industry experience. JFMS’s Principal Naval Architect, Bob Colclough, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this transatlantic project; GWave’s commitment to the South West is a great testament to the strength and depth of supply chain. We hope this is the first of many developments off our shores, consolidating the UK’s position as world leaders in marine renewable energy. Wave Hub has been the birthplace for many innovative projects and will be a great testing ground for the device.”
