QF Focus Magazine Pat Focuses on the faces behind our Local Businesses

Haley Anne Lynch - Global Discount Furniture Outlet Benijofar Having lived here for 16 years, Haley is totally fluent in not just speaking Spanish but also reading and writing it.

Haley was born in Islington, North London then moved to Hertfordshire for 2 years, before moving to Spain after her Mum and Dad bought a house in El Altet. Until they all moved to Los Montesinos, they had only lived in areas where there were mostly Spanish residents which helped them learn the language quicker. Haley's 2 sons are also fluent and go to local Spanish schools.

Haley's first job in Spain was in a Spanish Estate Agents - she said she doesn't really know how she got the job as her Spanish wasn't very good at that time! Her next job, which she really enjoyed, was in a Spanish Lawyers office by which time after studying really hard, her Spanish was at a high level.

Haley was almost destined to go in to the furniture business as her Grandad was an antiques dealer and her Dad had furniture shops in the UK.

Global Discount was a project that took 2 years to plan, Haley and her Dad researched all the local areas, prices of furniture from the UK and what sort of furniture was needed to make the shop a success. They decided that there was a market for mid-price range furniture so they now sell end of lines, ex catalogue and liquidation stock from Argos, Homebase, B&Q and Direct Supplies. So in June last year after all the planning, the shop opened in Benijofar with Haley and her Dad jointly running it, and she laughs that she is the apprentice learning the trade! They also employ a Spanish carpenter and Jose the delivery driver.

Containers arrive every 3 weeks with new items so Haley has sales all the time to make room for the new items coming in. The price of items, where appropriate, includes free fitting, installation and local delivery. The shop now only sells new furniture as the market proved to be better than having 2nd hand furniture as well. New garden furniture is due to arrive any time soon so I can see another sale coming on to make space!

Customers are able to order items online as many people have holiday homes here and are not able to get to the shop, Haley then stores the items until they arrive. Haley uses lots of online sites to advertise the furniture which she says brings in a lot of business.

When she isn't working, Haley likes to do lots of activities with her sons like bike riding and walking the dog, talking of which, if you have ever been in to the shop you will know Bogart the English Bulldog. What a beautiful boy he is and if you haven't been in it is worth a visit just to see him - but take a dog biscuit with you and he will be your friend forever!

I am typing this, sitting on my new dining chairs that I bought from Haley last month, well worth a visit and don't forget the dog biscuit!!
