DINING

US-style grill comfort cuisine! Watch the sous-vide ma- tured steak or ‘Rockenrolla’ burger, goat cheese salad or duck and caramelised onion ‘Unlucky Donald’ burger, pre- pared before your eyes in the open kitchen by their ace chef Timurs Bjornsons. steak houses BEEF EATER’S

75 K. Valdemåra iela (enter from Zaubes iela) mob. tel. 24117511, 12.00–23.00, Sun, Mon 12.00–22.00. www.beefeaters.lv To uncover a restaurant like this, even for a Rigan, is a genuine treasure! Located a wee bit off the tourist track, on the gorgeous Bauhaus/National Romanticism Zaubes street, this meat house is the genuine predator’s refuge. We loved their ‘Just Meat’ menu: ‘Fillet Mignon’, ‘Stripolin’ or ‘Rib Eye’ steak, plus homemade sauce—we recom- mend the 48-hour simmered ‘demi-glace’—and grilled veggies. It is made immaculately from local beef (except the ‘Rib Eye’ from Australia/Argentina), without any ad- ditives or marinades. Also soups, salads, kebabs, burg- ers, tartares, dumplings, even pâte—all is exclusively home-made and wow-delectable! Strikingly open-hearted service! We would say ‘like at home’, but we doubt that anybody can do it so good at home. STEIKU HAOSS (Steak Chaos)

25 Meistaru iela (J-3), tel. 67222419, 12.00–24.00, Fri, Sat, 12.00–01.00. 2 Audéju iela (K-3), tel. 67225699, 12.00–23.00, Fri, Sat, Sun 12.00–last client. 41/43 Térbatas iela, tel. 67272707, 12.00–23.00, Fri, Sat 12.00–24.00. www.steikuhaoss.lv Riga’s trailblazer in the aesthetics and cuisine of the Wild West has expanded into three restaurants over the last ten years. Of the 17 different steak dishes listed on the menu, any one could stand alone as a featured item, whether it be the naturally strong-flavoured Argentinian bife de cho- rizo, beef tenderloin matured in olive oil, or the lean, yet succulent, fillet mignon. Since our chefs have interned at Copenhagen’s Noma (rated as the world’s best restaurant for three years in a row), they have brought new dimen- sions to Steiku Haoss: the appetizers, soups, salads and

condiments have become more refined, the desserts— ever more enticing, and the wine list—decidedly selective. The Térbatas branch offers you to buy steaks, burgers and shashliki, all properly prepared and ready-to-be-grilled, including the chef’s recipe on how to serve them.
