Tuesday 18th April, Dunblane Local History Society ‘Fortress Forth 1914-1918’ - Geoffrey Stell, Military Architectural Historian. At the outbreak of World War 1 the Forth had become the most heavily defended coastal zone in Scotland. Taking advantage of recent Historic Scotland sponsored audits of World War 1 remains, Geoffrey will describe and illustrate the coastal, marine and aerial defences that constituted the armed teeth of ‘Fortress Forth’ during that period together with a look at some of those features that provided the essential logistical support. This meeting will be at our usual venue - the Cathedral Halls Dunblane. Visitors are very welcome. Admission charge £1.50 which includes tea or coffee and biscuits.


• Wednesday 19th April,Dunblane Accordion & Fiddle Club, 7.30pm Victoria Hall, Dunblane. Guests will be The Janet Graham Band. All players, any instrument, warmly welcomed.


• Monday 24th April, Dunblane Cathedral Guild. 11am at Westlands Hotel, Dunblane for AGM and then lunch. Members only can attend for this event.


• Wednesday 26th April, Scottish Women’s Institute, meet for a ceramic talk from Eileen Wilson. 7.30pm in the Victoria Hall. Everyone Welcome, £3.50 for visitor entry.

Simon was born on 27th of December 1962 in Nairobi, Kenya. He began his career as a child actor at the age of ten, but soon moved into the field of natural history. His early programmes include Man and Boy, King’s Country and Walk on the Wildside.


Simon has contributed memorable footage to some off the BBC’s most prestigious wildlife series including Blue Planet, Life in the Freezer and Planet earth.


He is well known for his presenting work on popular series such as Big Cat Diary, Springwatch and Autumnwatch as well as his series Simon King’s Shetland Dairies. Simon is involved with many wildlife charities – The Wildlife Trust, Tusk Trust, David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation and The Woodland Trust, to name but a few.


In 2015 he launched the Simon King Wildlife Project which is a registered charity dedicated to land restoration, education and engagement in the natural world, and in August 2016 his latest book “Nature Watch” was published which is the ultimate guide to tracking and watching Wildlife in Britain and Europe.


All profits from the talk will be donated to SPANA, the international working animal charity
