Message from Gemma, Centre Manager

Hi everyone – I hope you’ve all had a great start to the New Year. It’s been a busy start to the year for us. January saw our annual Youth Burns Supper with the Immortal Memory being delivered by Ted Christopher. The kids as usual did an incredible job with recitation, poetry and music and following the Youth Burns Supper then wowed the crowds at our Senior Citizens Burns Supper! A huge thank you to all our staff and volunteers who made these events happen.

Our Cocktails and Cabaret crew wowed crowds with their performances with the gorgeous Bee Fiarse Beaujambes as host.

As you know Andrew left us before Christmas and we’ve been on the hunt for a new Youth Worker as we speak. As this goes to print we will be in the fi nal stages of recruitment and we hope to introduce to our new Youth Worker very soon :) Thanks to the staff who have been running the youth clubs and activities in the meantime.

After Full Monty and Avenue Q our adult cast felt they need a slight change of pace. . . This May we are performing one of the darkest musicals ever written, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is the unsettling tale of a Victorian-era barber who returns home to London after fi fteen years of exile to take revenge on the corrupt judge who ruined his life While Sweeney utilises his razor to exact revenge on those who wronged him, his business associate Mrs. Lovett bakes the bodies into meat pies and sells them to the unsuspecting public. Perhaps composer/lyricist Stephen Sondheim’s most perfect score, Sweeney Todd is lush, operatic, and full of soaring beauty, pitch-black comedy and stunning terror. It’s one of the most remarkable achievements in musical theatre of the last fi fty years. An evening not to be missed.
