What is the value of your time? One of the current topics of discussion both in Parliament and in the Press

revolves around the ratio between the earnings of top executives and average pay. But not all of our time is spent working, so how much is our “free” time worth?

The majority of people who are still working have a relatively limited amount of free time to be involved in “extra” activities. After spending their valuable “free” time with family, or interests and activities, many would say they have no time to spare for any other community groups involvements.

However, while some voluntary groups require their members to be present at specifi c times, and in specifi c places, others are much more fl exible. There are, for example, a number of working groups associated with the Dunblane Development Trust that maintain the many fl ower beds, borders, and other fl oral features around the town, as well as putting up Christmas decorations and looking after pathways in and around the City.

It is even possible to be “on call” for the Community 1st Responders, whereby you can carry on doing other activities in the City but are prepared to drop what you are doing in response to an emergency call for your life saving skills.

The Rotary Club off ers another way of being involved in giving something back to the local community and also contributing to international projects, while doing so in a social setting. The Club meets nearly every week for about two hours, enjoying a two course evening meal in the company of the other members. There is regularly a speaker whose topic can be anything, from the topical, to the bizarre, with, at other times, a range of activities which can be supportive of good causes or just good fun.

Rotary membership is for anyone who likes good company, has a sense of humour, wants to give something back to the community, but likes to have fun at the same time. Why not come along and fi nd out for yourself, you will be made most welcome.

Anyone interested in attending should contact the Club Secretary, Iain Fraser at secretary@dunblanerotary.org Tel: 01786 822 751. More information about the Club can be found on the Club website:
