D unblane Community Café by Erin P, Katy C, Iona G
and Rebecca M Dunblane Primary Action Team created a community café for the older residents of Dunblane, we hold it once a month in the school for members of the Contact the Elderly Group and residents of Holmehill and Hanover Court. We serve tea, coff ee and cakes, we bake the cakes in our school kitchen and we chat to the guests about their lives and tell them about ours. Over
the rest of this year we have lots planned like baking, painting, games and reading.
During our January Community Café some of our P4 learners shared their Scots poems with the guests and P7 learners shared their Burns Supper songs. The community and children really enjoy the experience and they love coming back again. Some of the DPAT group shared their thoughts on the café.
“I feel like it will keep the guests company if they don’t have anybody to talk to they can come down to the school on a Friday,” Katy “I think the guests enjoy coming to have fun.” Iona “I like the community coming to chat to us because they are very friendly to everyone.” Rebecca “I really enjoyed meeting the community and chatting to them.” Erin
Dunblane Primary School Outdoor Learning -
Making Skewers by P2J On Thursday mornings we go outside to learn. So far we have learned about making dens, fi res and frames. Today we went outside to make skewers.
We are peeling to make wooden skewers that we can use to cook sausages and marshmallows when we build our next fi re. We had to think about safety when we were doing this task and we thought about the following things. We chose sticks as long as our arms and sticks that do not bend. We
needed to wear gloves when we were peeling bark off sticks using a potato peeler to protect our hands. We have learned how to hold a peeler and use one and we peeled away from our bodies. We would never walk about with a peeler in our hand.
Kenny Logan Visit by Freddie M On Wednesday 25th January we had a very special visitor in Assembly,
this visitor was Kenny Logan an ex-Scotland rugby player!
He visited the school because my class have been learning about Famous Scots and I chose Kenny as the person to research for homework. He came to a P4-7 Assembly to talk about his career and the struggles he faced with dyslexia at school. We then got to ask Kenny questions about his job and how he became an international rugby player. The most important message he shared with us was that you should always try your hardest and never give up!
