Sarens places record order for Kamag SPMTs
Sarens will use the Kamag K25 SP in two huge combinations, which will form the backbone of its transport operations for the Tengizchevroil project in Kazakhstan.

arens has placed a EUR63 million (USD66.95 million) order
for self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) with Kamag, part of the TII Group, for use at Tengizchevroil’s (TCO) Future Growth and Wellhead Pressure Management Project (FGP- WPMP) in Kazakhstan. It is the biggest order in the
TII Group’s history. The two companies have worked together for many years to develop the precise products needed on Sarens’ projects, and the Sarens self-propelled fleet now includes more than 2,000 axle lines built by the TII Group. “We talk to them about what
we need for our clients and we now have the Kamag K25 which is an adaption of the K24 model, which we developed together a few years ago,” said Carl Sarens, director technical solutions, projects and engineering. The inclusion of the

has proved a vital part of the design solution needed to handle land transportation and installation of pre-assembled units (PAU) and pre-assembled racks (PAR) along with related oversized equipment required for the FGP-WPMP project. Sarens has been contracted to offload, store, stack and transport the modules to their respective installation points.
Technical requirements Wim Sarens, chief executive of Sarens, stated: “We have already invested EUR34 million (USD36.13 million) in the purchase of new equipment. We were sure that our project expertise and commitment would get us the job – and were proven right. The technical

November/December 2016 edition of HLPFI, Sarens will develop and operate two transhipment bases – one in Finland and one in Bulgaria – where the PAUs and PARs will be offloaded from oceangoing ro-ro vessels for onward delivery via a newly dredged 70 km navigation channel through the north section of the Caspian Sea.
Drive performance Dr Axel Müller, president of TII Group, said: “With the new double power packs, we can supply sufficient drive performance for the job; furthermore, Sarens will be able to re-integrate the equipment into its regular standard fleet afterwards by splitting them up into four single units.” The USD36.8 billion
expansion of the Tengiz oilfield, in north western Kazakhstan, will increase crude oil production by 260,000 barrels a day. During the project, which is
scheduled to run from 2017 until 2020, Sarens expects to deploy approximately 150 specialist personnel to the various locations of the project, and also employ around 250 local professionals from various logistics sectors.
