Special Report: As the sharing economy grows, so do calls for its regulation It is completely false to say that there is no regulation. As a landlord with long-term rents I have to comply with lots of regulations: gas safety, legionnaires’ disease, etc. These same regulations apply no matter the term of the rental agreement, whether six months or six days.

Opinion: Live in the present by cutting back on social media I couldn’t agree more, Andy [Freeth], you’ve hit it on the nail. Social media has its place when used responsibly, otherwise it can be horribly destructive. Like many things, there should be a code of conduct, just as you’d expect in other walks of life

Manchester airport can’t handle the crowds

Manchester airport is taking more passengers than it’s designed for and, more importantly, its management can handle. The place is overcrowded and undermanaged. I go through the airport weekly as a business user and occasionally with family and can say it’s at the bottom end of airport experiences! Any correspondence with them takes months and the answers are always evasive.

RICHARD Travel Weekly welcomes a reply from Manchester airport

TALK BACK WHAT YOU’RE SAYING THIS WEEK

LETTER OF THE

WEEK

EDITORIAL@ TRAVEL WEEKLY. CO.UK

It’s not only operators stealing clients

Letter: Why do agents back direct-sell rivals? (August 18) I think Brendan McGuire was far too polite in his letter: we should add airlines and hotels to the list of tour operators trying to steal our clients instead of working with us to extend the travel experience for customers. Why are agents supporting operators, airlines and hotel groups that want to put us out of business? So many companies have gone for short-term gain and have failed to realise that strong foundations are the key to a strong business. We should be looking for operators and partners that offer

that opportunity – and if I may say so, the industry already has one. Aito is a 40-year-old organisation that brings like-minded operators and agents together to offer our clients the best holidays possible at a fair price to the client. If you haven’t looked before, take a look now; and if you are a member, have a closer look. Things are changing for the better. IAN PRIOR managing director, Westway Travel, Essex
