You glow girl! Nothing emits a sense of happiness and health like a radiant complexion, and one of this Summer’s biggest make-up trends is luminous skin.
“The new season brings with it plenty of lighter, fresher make-up looks,” says High Definition Founder and CEO, Nilam Holmes-Patel. “It’s no surprise that as the temperature rises; barefaced chic takes centre stage, with clients opting for nude-looking skin, neutral tones, a sun- kissed glow and natural highlights.”
“The most popular way to sport the natural look this Spring/Summer 2016 is with dewy-looking skin,” Nilam adds. “The wet-look was a universal beauty trend – the catwalks were awash with slicked-back locks, a look that goes hand in hand with the sports-luxe trend, where glowing skin completes the look.”
Make-up artists for Stella McCartney, Gucci, Balmain and Versace could be found using the strobing technique to achieve that much-coveted radiant appearance. “Strobing promises to be another trend,” reveals Enda Ahern of Chleo Enterprises. “Just as with a stroboscope, individual parts of the face are accentuated with highlights. Through the resulting lighting effects, strobing products create highlights and provide a fascinating aura – from natural by day to glamorous by night.”
Get with the grunge You may have noticed the resurgence in 90s fashion on the high-street and this trend is also set to make waves in the world of beauty this season. Indeed, many designers opted to focus on the decade’s love for ‘all things grunge’ to inspire their SS16 collections.
With muses such as Courtney Love in mind, the ultimate rock chick wouldn’t be complete without her black kohl liner and models at Diesel, Chloé, Emilio Pucci and Topshop Unique could be seen sporting a smudgy eye effect.
“If au naturel isn’t quite edgy enough for you, go for the ‘grunge luxe’ look, that is set to be huge in the coming season,” notes Nilam. “A glossier remake of Nineties grunge and a fresher way to wear ‘smokey eyes’, the idea is to look like you slept in your eyeliner, after a night of partying.”
Make a statement With barefaced beauty taking centre stage, this season’s lips are certainly set to do the talking.
Red hot lips are set to be a sizzling trend for Summer 2016 and were used by the likes of Oscar De La Renta and Victoria Beckham to complement their seasonal collections.

So what was the fashion designers’ shade of choice for Summer 2016? Once again a host of famous names opted for the hue of ravishing red. Indeed, bright pops of the vibrant colourway could be seen at Jason Wu, Oscar De La Renta, Céline, Victoria Beckham and Giles, to name but a few.
The key to making this trend wearable is to select the shade which
complements your client’s complexion and skin tone. Bright reds with a blue base work well with paler skins, while orangey-red shades are ideal for ladies with medium tones. For darker complexions, choose plum, raspberry and tangerine.
Beauties in blue Whilst many fashion houses opted to make lips their beauty focal point, others chose to put emphasis on lids and brow bones by using blue eyeshadows and liners.
Missoni’s fashionistas rocked electric blue, Hugo Boss showed a nod to the 80s with their neon shades, whilst models on the Chanel runway showcased a smudgy and messy pale blue bandit design across the eyes.
Meanwhile, make-up artists at Jonathan Saunders applied bright blue eyeliner to ensure a statement style on the catwalk and Diane von Furstenberg’s collection channelled the 70s with a pared-back lip and teal eyeshadow on models such as Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner.
“Big on the catwalk for Summer make- up looks 2016 are blue eyeshadow, turquoise eyeliner and tropical colourful eyes,” says The Beauty Academy’s Linda Ennis. “Add a playful edge to make-up by adding a pop of colour on the eyes, but be careful to choose a colour that compliments your [client’s] eyes and apply this all over as a soft wash of colour or use as a liner along the lash line. Keep the rest of the make-up simple with soft blush and pinkie nude lips to make the look more wearable and not overdone.”
