The Roots of Reformation


Day 1 Berlin - Wittenberg We start the day with a city tour of Berlin. We see the famous Bran- denburg Gate, the Cathedral, the Reichstag building and the lovely boulevards. Then proceed to Wit- tenberg.


Day 2 Wittenberg - Torgau - Leipzig We proceed to Wittenberg, desi- gnated as “Lutherstadt” (“Luther Town”). It was here that Luther gained notoriety by posting his 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church, sparking the movement that would become the Reformati-

on. In Torgau we visit the sites as- sociated with Katharina Von Bora, including her grave in St. Mary’s Church.


Day 3 Leipzig - Eisleben - Erfurt In the morning you visit Leipzig and the Thomaskirche, where J.S. Bach served as choirmaster for 25 years and where Luther preached and introduced his ideas for the refor- mation to the people. Upon arrival in Eisleben you enjoy a city tour that includes the houses where Luther was born in 1483, and where he died in 1546.


Day 4 Erfurt - Eisenach - Schmalkalden - Erfurt In the morning we start our excursi- on to Eisenach. Enjoy a guided tour of Wartburg Castle where Luther translated the Bible. You also visit the Luther and Bach Memorials and the Luther House, where he lived during grammar school. On the way back to Erfurt, brief visit of Schmalkalden - founding city of the Schmalkaldic League.


Day 5 Erfurt - Coburg - Würzburg In the morning enjoy a sightseeing tour of Erfurt including St. Mary’s
