A weekend with J.S. Bach in Leipzig


The life of Johann Sebastian Bach is closely related to the city of Leipzig. Bach worked as music director and cantor of the St. Thomas church, and it was here in Leipzig where he composed his most significant works between 1723 and 1750. With this special pa- ckage you are going to have the opportunity to attend two presentations of the world famous Thomanerchor (St. Thomas Boys Choir) that was conducted by Bach for 27 years; as well as a concert at the Mendelssohn House.


Day 1 / Thursday Leipzig Upon arrival optional transfer to your hotel in Leipzig. Free time.


Day 2 / Friday Music walking tour and motet with the St. Thomas Choir After breakfast a guided city tour through town will introduce you to Leipzig’s musical heritage: the birthplace of Richard Wagner, the statue of Johann Sebastian Bach, the St. Thomas church and much more. At 18:00 you will attend a concert of the St. Thomas Boys Choir, singing a motet of J.S.Bach during the evening church service. The structure of the most famous Boys Choir has remained the same for the last 800 years.


Day 3 / Saturday Bach Museum and Cantata with the Gewandhaus Orche- stra In the morning visit the Bach Mu- seum that presents the life and work of the great composer in an interactive multimedia exhibition. One of the highlights is the trea- sure room, where original Bach

manuscripts and other precious items are on display. At 15:00 you are going to enjoy a concert of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra along with the St. Thomas Boys Choir, both will perform a cantata of J.S.Bach. The Gewandhaus Or- chestra is the oldest civil orchestra in Germany and it enjoys a high international reputation. Depending on the season it´s pos- sible to attend an evening concert of the Gewandhaus Orchestra. Please ask us for details.


Day 4 / Sunday Mendelssohn House with mu- sical matinee Today you are going to visit the Mendelssohn House museum. It’s all about the life of Felix Mendels- sohn Bartholdy, who was the direc- tor of the Gewandhaus Orchestra from 1835 to 1847 and the promo- ter of Bach’s revival in Germany. At 11:00 you can attend a musi- cal matinee at the Mendelssohn House (duration approximately 1 hour). In the afternoon optional transfer to the airport.
