COLLABORATION IS KEY TO DEVELOPING SKILLS

lasgow’s young people are delivering record results when it comes to passing national school exams. Now, the city’s organisations


seeking to bring successful young people into the workplace must collaborate to help develop the vital skills that are required, said Bailie Liz Cameron, Glasgow’s former Lord Provost. Bailie Cameron, who is also the

the major further and higher education establishments in Glasgow, plus several of the city’s most significant businesses, including Laing O’Rourke, Glasgow Airport, Barclays, PwC, Morgan Stanley, Barrhead Travel and Arnold

Glasgow City Council’s education department has made over the last few years improving the positive destinations of young people year on year, with more young people going into further and higher education than ever before. She said Glasgow’s excellent exam results


were beter this year than ever before and she highlighted the need for broader and deeper types of learning. She also spoke about the work the


education department is doing with the colleges and Skills Development Scotland to strengthen the vocational learning opportunities for young people in schools and why employers are vitally important to that work. She mentioned the need to focus on areas of job growths for young people – such as soſtware engineering – and highlighted the excellent work the department is doing to support STEM subjects. Te councillor also called for more


people in Glasgow to mentor disadvantaged young people through MCR Pathways and Career Ready.
