The world at their feet A

Aggreko apprentices have joined one of the global leaders in power generation

permanent contract from day one and the opportunity to see the world are just two of the reasons that make the Aggreko

Manufacturing and Technology Apprenticeship Scheme one of the most popular schemes in Scotland. Aggreko took on four apprentices this

year, picked from more than 560 applicants, who join 18 other apprentices across the four year scheme. Eleven apprentices graduated this

summer with an HNC and further electrical and technical qualifications, and are all working in a wide spectrum of roles – most across Aggreko’s manufacturing facility in Dumbarton. “We are very lucky to get such talented

young people interested in our scheme,” said Apprenticeship Programme Manager, Jim Duffy, who has run the programme for the past seven years. “We welcome them as part of the team

from day one, giving them a full-time, permanent contract and encouraging them to get involved in all aspects of the business, including working abroad, if they want.” In September, the company took on Grant

Bonner, Callum MacKay, Sophie MacKinnon and Euan McIlwraith. Tey do a day a week at college, working towards academic qualifications, and the rest

Tese include stints in departments such as finance, procurement, manufacturing and engineering, technical, health and safety and stores. “Our business is power generation, so it’s

quite technical,” said Jim, “but although we take on people who show an interest in that,

we also give the apprentices the opportunity to go into other parts of the business. It’s about where they want to go and what interests them.” Aggreko has been in business for more than

50 years and employs more than 7,300 people in more than 100 countries around the world. Te company’s head office is in Glasgow
