Te Homeless World Cup is a unique, pioneering social movement which uses football to inspire homeless people to change their own lives. Te Homeless World Cup envisions a world where anyone and everyone who is or becomes homeless can gain access to a National Partner’s transformative programme. Originally from one of the poorest parts of Bangladesh, Dr M Mozammel Huq has lived in the City of Glasgow for more than 50 years. He arrived as a student and is very much a proud Glaswegian. Inspired by his belief in education as a cure for many of the world’s ills, he made a pledge early on in his academic career to help the people of his birthplace enjoy improved health, equality and access to education and as a result founded the charity, Charity Education International (CEI). Pinkston Watersports is a unique urban white water watersports centre, located in the heart of Glasgow on the Forth and Clyde Canal at Port Dundas. While providing a much needed facility for top level athletes, it will also become a fully accessible hub for community sports activities. Te centre aims to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of North Glasgow by forming links with local youth clubs and community projects.

and merit and the results speak for themselves, with the institution now being awarded local state funding for staff. Much work has also been done to alleviate poverty – such as micro-credit programmes and adult literacy classes for both sexes, as well as medical care services to local communities. He was also recognised earlier this year by the Lord Provost for his services to charity.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD SUPPORTED BY: GLASGOW AIRPORT RECIPIENT: PROFESSOR DAME ANNA DOMINICZAK (DBE, MD, FRCP, FAHA, FRSE, FMEDSCI)
Professor Dame Anna Dominiczak (DBE, MD, FRCP, FAHA, FRSE, FMedSci) is Regius Professor of Medicine, Vice Principal and Head of College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow, and an honorary consultant physician and non-executive director of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board. Anna is one of the world’s leading cardiovascular scientists and clinical academics. She held a British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Glasgow between 1997 and 2010, as well as the directorship of the Cardiovascular Research Centre between 2000 and 2010. Anna is no stranger to the Inspiring City Awards and last year collected the Judges’ Award on behalf of the University of Glasgow and the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Tis year, her services to cardiovascular and medical sciences were recognised by the Queen who made her a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
