BANK OF SCOTLAND
SUPPORTING GLASGOW BUSINESSES
Deep relationships are fostering the talent that is Glasgow’s heartbeat , according to Craig Pollock, Area Director for SMEs Scotland, Bank of Scotland
I
t’s a real pleasure to be supporting Te Glasgow Business Awards again in 2016. Bank of Scotland and Glasgow Chamber of Commerce have a lot in common. We were
both established specifically to support local businesses, and we have both been succeeding in that role for hundreds of years now. In that time, our institutions have worked
for the benefit of this great city and its economy, so it gives us great satisfaction to mark the achievements of Glasgow’s business community at these awards. We are both working to the same ends: to
support Glasgow businesses in fulfilling their potential and being the best they can be. Tese awards have been going strong for 19
years now, and they are an excellent showcase for the talent that we are fostering in Glasgow. Hearing the finalists’ stories has been both
inspirational and aspirational. I have no doubt that by shining a light on
the city’s high achievers, we are motivating more entrepreneurs to turn their ambitions into reality. In the last year, Bank of Scotland has been
supporting existing and new clients in growing their businesses. We are there to support growing
businesses’ working capital and capital expenditure needs across all sectors, from property to healthcare, manufacturing to
tourism, and professional services to food and drink producers. But more than that, our support goes way
beyond the core banking services that you would expect. We understand that deep, lasting
relationships help businesses prosper, so we constantly work hard to provide the kind of insightful guidance and support that makes us a business partner you can rely on. And that is true whether you
are a small or medium-sized business or a global corporation, whether your business goals are local, national or global. In 2016, businesses including
those with international operations and ambitions have faced a unique set of circumstances. Te uncertainty around the
build-up to the EU Referendum vote, as well as the result to leave the EU, has dominated the agenda.
While it is early days yet, and we still lack
the ‘hard’ economic data that will give a true impression of how Brexit has impacted the economy, there are some early indicators of optimism. Many Scotish businesses already have a
fantastic international trade proposition, employment is growing, our food and drink sector is thriving and our provenance is a fantastic asset. And Glasgow, in particular, continues to
punch above its weight. Of course, we face challenges – not least in the oil and gas sector – but we are well connected, with an increasingly diverse economy, a talented workforce and a dynamic, entrepreneurial atitude. Whatever the future may hold,
Bank of Scotland will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Glasgow’s business community. Te Glasgow Business
Awards are a fantastic opportunity for us to step back and reflect on the achievements of Glasgow businesses. Congratulations to
Craig Pollock, Area Director for SMEs Scotland, Bank of Scotland
all of Te Glasgow Business Awards 2016 winners and finalists.
