never in my many, many years on the planet eaten at a Vietnamese restaurant. In fact, it took me about 20 minutes to find something on the menu that I wanted to try, and even then, I didn’t know what to expect. I started out with a familiar appetizer: Spring Rolls (2), made with ground pork, carrots, onion, rice vermicelli, served with lettuce, cilantro, and
more. I would recommend Mekong to any and everyone who likes good food, and a lot of it. This was my first experience with Viet- namese, and all I can say is it will not be my last.

Kudzu Seafood 470 Third Street Macon, Ga (478) 292-2085 Established by Lee Clack and his wife
Kelley Wrigle, Kudzu brings the tastes of the Gulf Coast right into the heart of Historic Downtown Macon. Serving authentic Gulf Coast seafood with all of the breading, sea- soning blends, and sauces made in house, Kudzu even imports their Po’ Boy bread from Gambinos in Louisiana. The Kudzu menu if filled to the rim
chili-garlic dipping sauce ($2.99) I must say they were delicious, especially with the tasty dipping sauce. For my entree, I ordered the Lemon-
grass Beef Vermicelli bowl. ($8.99) A huge bowl (I could not eat it all!) filled with lettuce, cucumber, bean sprouts, mint, cilantro, peanuts, crispy shallots and noodles, served with a chili-garlic-lime sauce. It was one of the downright tastiest meals I had enjoyed in quite some time. And like I said, it all comes in a very big bowl. Be prepared to take some home with you. The mix of flavors and tex- tures was unparalleled, and I was truly sur- prised at the generous amount of beef included. Protein for days. Mekong also offers a wide array of Viet-
namese favorites, including various Pho soups, noodle stir frys, sandwiches and much

with tasty treats, from appetizers that include Fried Crawfish Boudin, Buffalo Shrimp (No, they didn’t name them after me!), Jambalaya Hushpuppies and more- along with various Taco Baskets including a tasty Oyster Taco. The Kudzu baskets drew me in, so I enjoyed the Oyster Basket ($11) including cheese grits, Mighty good stuff! I don’t normally eat fried food, but these fried oysters were excellent, and just what the doctor ordered. There are many choices on the menu,
from salads with your choice of shrimp, grouper, oysters or chicken; the always popu- lar Kudzu po’boy sandwiches, including shrimp sandwiches, grouper, oyster, crawfish, soft shell crab and others. Kudzu is a welcome addition to the ever
growing downtown Macon community, and a very enjoyable place to enjoy fresh seafood in- land.
