INDEPENDENT PRESCRIBER OF THE YEAR

ENTRY CAN BE BY NOMINATION OR BY PERSONAL APPLICATION

Being an independent prescriber allows pharmacists to prescribe medicines within their areas of competence. This Award aims to reward the pharmacist for enhancing the level of care they provide and the ability to make professionally autonomous decisions while working in collaboration with nurses, GPs and others.

The pharmacist must demonstrate first and foremost that they are patient facing in their role, and are included in both the decisions and governance of practice prescribing to improve patient care. Pharmacist input could be sessional or full time, and could be achieved with both generalist and specialist input using primary, community or secondary care pharmacists working in/with the practice, according to local needs.

We are therefore delighted to be supporting the Scottish Pharmacist Awards for the first time in 2017 and introducing a new award to recognise outstanding contribution through Independent Prescribing in Pharmacy to healthcare in Scotland.

Napp is particularly proud to support the Scottish Pharmacist Awards at a time when the evolution of Pharmacy in Scotland through “Prescription for Excellence” means that many pharmacists now have the opportunity of playing an increasingly important role in the safe utilisation of medicines and improving outcomes for patients. At Napp, we want to support the innovators who are driving these new services, and look forward to developing new partnerships focused on delivering the best possible health outcomes for patients from their medicines.’
