I can’t let this issue pass without commenting on the awful fires that overtook the area north of Alicante. The soaring temperatures that we experienced at the beginning of September only made matters worse and the professionals fought long and hard to get things under control. I take my hat off to everyone involved and I’m sure everyone will agree with me on that one. My heart goes out to those who
lost their homes /belongings/ businesses, it is going to be a massive clear up operation that will take decades before the area fully recuperates. However, the local community really pulled together and showed solidarity in the face of disaster, offering food, clothes and shelter to those in need.
This really restored my faith in humanity. After another long summer break the children have now finally returned to school, however the children of Rojales / Quesada area have had to go into a makeshift school with porta-cabins serving as temporary classrooms for a lot of them. The play area has almost disappeared due to the building site that will house the new school, and one of the car parks is now serving as a gym area. I can see utter chaos happening at drop off and pick up everyday for the foreseeable future and have therefore decided that walking to and from school is to be a better option. Oh well it will certainly make me fitter walking that cardiac hill on a daily basis.
