A View From
Welcome to my monthly column “A view from the top”. Hopefully you will find my rambling readable (maybe even enjoyable). You may agree or you may disagree with my views, I care not. These are my views long held and forged over a life time of work, travel and experience. Now that’s over let’s have a look at what is really winding me up.
Go on then do something.
The people of Britain have had their say on the question of leaving the European Union…The country is in a state of what happens now? …people want to know the what…where and why of Brexit and the response of the new Prime Minister and her Government is one of total and utter ineptness. The reason for Government can be found in the word “government”…IE, to govern. The response from Mrs May’s boys has been …well it has been nothing! Britain needs a new airport runway… A decision was to be made, to date nothing… no government lead. Britain needs a method of producing electricity for its future generations … The decision … oh well …maybe…not sure…finance…the nasty Chinese…the result nothing - no leadership from government. Now I am not a fan of expensive nuclear energy but for heaven’s sake do something. Let’s see a plan to explore alternative energy generation before the lights go out… Leadership, I heard about it once. If you cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen goes the old British slogan… never more apt than in describing Mrs. May’s boys.
Coming to a South Coast town near you.
While the British government pontificates and mumbles its way in post Brexit Britain …across the Channel the French are gearing up for a round of elections that will probably see the French political right surge back into power with Mr. Sarkozy in all eventuality being elected President of The French Republic. If and when this happens he (Sarkozy) will ask Britain to sort out the immigrant camps in and around the Calais region of France. In this he will be supported by Madam Le Pen and her right wing followers… in fact he will be pushed into a decision that I suspect he already wants to take. That decision will be to demand that Britain does something about the people in the camps who want to come to Britain. My forecast is that with the British government so inept and inert, the French will simply allow all and sundry to embark

for Dover and its surrounding environs. Well it has happened before in 1066. This time however, the immigrants in question will simply walk through the Channel Tunnel leaving the British Government in a classic ‘dammed if you do and dammed if you do not’ situation. Watch this space.
Moving house.
Just trying to come to terms with our decision to sell our lovely
house and
move …house sold and another house purchased but the nagging doubt still rattles my brain. I am both looking forward to our move and at the same time dreading it. Staying in Spain… of course we are … however with the family scattered to the winds, the need for such a large house and garden is not the priority it once
was. We are moving into our local village rather than live just on its outskirts. I am hoping that moving into the town will open up new and as yet unseen visions and vistas of this land of Spain … perhaps my Spanish will improve along with my desire to really understand the Spanish psyche. What I am not looking forward too however is the refurbishment and the decorating that the purchased house needs. That expression “watching paint dry” is me exactly …it’s not watching the stuff dry that erks me, it’s also putting the stuff on the wall that drives me to distraction. I suspect I will be boring the pants off you ‘Dear Reader’ with my tales of ‘do it yourself’ in the coming months.
Our Crespo.
Just had a really tough three months since the loss of one of our beautiful Border Collies. He died at home on May 25th 2016 after an illness. We cared for him and he went quietly and hopefully without pain. We had 13 wonderful years with him, buying him as a tiny puppy here in Spain. His kennel name was “Sprit of the Air” which catches him perfectly …always calm and people friendly …he grew up with our boys and also with our young grandchildren. He was, what you could call the perfect friend … loyal whilst never being too demanding…a perfect family friend …Goodbye Crespo. We miss you.
