Com Truise’s sci-fi saga

continues By Chris Holmes

Com Truise is the electronic proj- ect of Seth Haley, a former DJ who employs an arsenal of synth patches and drum machines to create a heady mix of ’80s-inspired sci-fi music. By pitch- bending and layering these plug-ins, Haley creates something that is futuristic and retro-sounding. Silicon Tare is ostensibly themed around a space traveler (a story that

breakdown. Things are slowed down on side two but are no less engaging; the title track gets out there with some spacy synth sounds and an unexpected mid-song redirection, while final song “du Zirconia” builds to an ecstatic cli- max before gently fading out. Seth Haley is an artist of his time — someone who has no appar- ent musical training but who is able to exploit modern tools to create something special. With Silicon Tare, he’s taken the electronic-music art form to an intriguing place.

Buckethead — mad scientist of

electric guitar By Matthew Craig Burke

Without a live band, Buckethead kept hard- core fans salivating over his axe handling. A souped-up guitar capable of making you breakfast and doing the dishes, buzzed, ripped, soared, and dominated the eardrums.

The show began with what sounded like a deranged astro- naut speaking over an anxious crowd. With just a backing track holding the tempo,

the guitarist gave his fans what they wanted — com- plete insanity. His six-foot-something self was dressed in all black, under plain white bucket

With 264 albums to his credit, Buckethead played what he wanted.

and mask, with his white Gibson Buckethead Sig- nature Les Paul — a rocket scientist would have difficulty translating the guitar specs. His robotic dance moves paired well with his pick-up knob twerking in and out with just a switch — he even let the front of the audience do it. With 264 albums to his credit, Buckethead played whatever he wanted, and the diehard fans devoured every minute.
