Pulp Paper & Logistics
INDUSTRY NEWS 9
VP at Xerium Europe, Oliver Baumann, global vice president for machine clothing technology and Dr Robert Marchhart, Xerium’s global product manager – explained how Xerium has initiated a long-term investment programme focused on strategically important market growth segments. This includes new offices, factories and product development. New manufacturing sites at
Kunshan in China, and Çorlu in Turkey have been started up
with the aim of manufacturing in Europe for Europe or the EMEA region, and China for Asia and Australia, guaranteeing a faster service better flexibility, shorter lead times, lower logistics costs and more efficient supply chain management. Xerium has invested $12m
at its European factories at Reutlingen and Gloggnitz in 2015/16 for new seaming technologies, four new looms, a new needling machine and an additional finishing machine.
This has boosted capacity and manufacturing, and reinforces the company’s claim that it is able to quickly and flexibly deliver all products in line with customary European top-quality standards. New product developments include ‘future-proof’ forming fabrics and felt technologies, combined with ‘unique’ material and design concepts – especially for tissue and packaging applications in proven growth markets, as well as for the
nonwovens/industrial textile product range – are said to offer significant added value. At the same time, it reinforces the company’s high demands of both providing customers with products that function flawlessly, and working with them in close partnership to supply individually tailored product solutions, which in turn enables papermakers to develop the right strategies for the future, seize new market opportunities and ensure long-term success.
Everything for paper mill drives and controls
Siemens launched a number of new products and updates in its range of drive and control systems at Zellcheming. ● Through the three-way integration of drive technology, Integrated Drive Systems help to improve productivity, reliability and efficiency and so pave the way for digitalization, and enabling each drive component to be seamlessly integrated into every drive system, every automation environment and across the entire life cycle. ● To bring about a sustainable improvement to the competitive edge of plants there is only one alternative: a move away from the exchange of individual components towards a meticulously planned and perfectly integrated overall concept. Siemens supports this approach with its modular systems and solutions from the Sipaper Portfolio. ● The modular Sinamics S120 drive system addresses demanding applications in plant and machinery construction. Single- and multi-axis drives sporting a high dynamic performance with integrated
comprehensive functionality and a scalable number of axes can address almost any drive application. Sinamics ● In the power range from 200 kW upwards Simotics FD motors are the basis for a complete, cost-effective system comprised of a motor and drive with a high power density. The motors are rugged and durable as a result of their cast iron frame, while water-cooled versions allow an extensive range of other applications to be addressed. ● Using special sensors, Flender
Gearlog captures readings relating to rotational speed, torque, temperature and in the future also vibration, which are added up in parallel with machine capacity utilization. The measurements enable conclusions to be drawn about the applied load and loading capacity of gears. ● Whether the focus is on production, handling or processing facilities, drive systems play a key role in industrial production processes. This makes it even more important to detect
impending damage and take the appropriate action in good time. This is where the Siemens Drive Train Condition Monitoring service comes in. The services range from mobile inspection of individual components, such as motors and gearboxes, to continuous online monitoring of the entire drive train. These services help to reduce the risk of outages, optimize service intervals and increase machine availability. More information from www.
