Reducing air consumption in web monitoring cameras Web monitoring cameras are
Tools that enable cooling air consumption to be reduced in the cameras used for web inspection in paper mills were launched by Procemex at Zellcheming. The Air Management System
offers between 10 and 40 per cent reductions by using: chained and shared cooling air for cameras
and lights; water cooling for lights; and fine tuning air flow based on measured reel needs. With Air Management Optimizing
Tools it is possible to reduce cooling air consumption for existing installations and calculate in advance how much cooling air is needed for new systems
kept clean under harsh wet end conditions with the aid of instrument air flow. The air is blown through a 5mm hole in front of the camera housing. As the air flow speeds up when passing the pinhole it forms a strong protection against dirt and prevents water and dirt from entering the camera housing. The housing has no protection window that could get dirty or wear out. The camera is equipped with a dedicated pinhole zoom lens capable of viewing through the hole. The benefits of pinhole cleaning
are said to be trouble-free operation, low air consumption,
100 per cent continuous visibility and the simplicity of the concept. There are no moving and wearing parts: wipers, electronics or controlling components. Continuous air flow enables pinhole cameras to film undisturbed 100 per cent of the time without washing cycles or wiper movements causing blind times during the cleaning process. Founded in 2000, Procemex
specialises in smart camera and lighting systems for web monitoring and inspection. More information from Procemex

Long-term strategy at Xerium focuses on optimising growth
In response to “unrelenting” market changes in the paper industry over the past five years, Xerium Technologies, a leading supplier of paper machine clothing and roll covers, has been changing its strategy to focus on optimising growth instead of generating higher sales. In a presentation at
Zellcheming, key executives from the US-based manufacturer explained how the strategy will be based mainly on investments targeting growth markets, a high innovation rate for products in the Huyck.Wangner (PMC) and Stowe Woodward (rolls covers and spreader rolls) divisions,

together with the group’s customer focus, which will be further expanded by adding new offices and sales organisations. Since 2010 the newsprint and
graphics paper segments have declined by 25 per cent and 14 per cent respectively, which have been reflected in Xerium’s sales for 2015 which were down 4 per cent year on year at US$477 million. In contrast, tissue and
packaging papers continued to be reliable businesses, marked by steady growth. Tissue paper production rose 14 per cent in the five years to 2015, while the packaging papers segment was up 8 percent. Industry

associations are forecasting growth for packaging papers in the EMEA region of 5.6 million
tons between now and 2020. The executives – Ernst
