Albion scores for Staffordshire
Burton Albion FC’s fairytale promotion to the Championship will be a massive boost to the local economy, according to the local Chamber. The Staffordshire minnows were playing non- league football just eight years ago, but are incredibly now just one step away from the Premiership, after back-to-back promotions. Chris Plant, director of Burton & District Chamber of Commerce, said: “Back-to-back promotion is an outstanding achievement. We are privileged to have such a well-run and incredibly talented community club in Burton. “I have attended a number of matches during
the season and the atmosphere, performances and pride of the fans is second to none. This is magnified across the local area beyond the 90 minutes of each match and there is a feel good factor amongst the business community. “Burton Albion’s promotion to the Championship will bring hundreds of thousands more pounds into the local economy and the Burton’s hotels, shops and services could also benefit from the influx of thousands more football fans. It is potentially a huge boost for East Staffordshire “It will benefit in terms of increased tourism
spend and possibly even business people wanting to tie-in meetings with a visit to the Championship’s newest club. “We expect it will bring people to East
Staffordshire and could have an immense impact in terms of boosting the local economy.”

The gateway to high quality storage solutions
Property firm St Modwen has officially completed BG87, the first speculatively-built warehouse at the 64-acre Burton Gateway commercial business park. A recent launch event was attended by
representatives from East Midlands Chamber of Commerce and East Midlands Borough Council, who performed an official ribbon cutting. BG87 is the first warehouse to have been
built at what is hoped will become one of largest industrial and warehouse developments in the Midlands, providing 1 million sq ft of industrial and distribution space. St Modwen recently submitted planning
applications for two more industrial units offering
108,000 and 220,000 sq ft of warehouse space. Ian Romano, senior development surveyor at
the firm, said: “With the first phase now complete, people can see for themselves the quality and scale of what is on offer here. “Together with the next planned phase of
warehouses totalling 328,000 sq ft, BG87 is helping answer the shortage of prime quality sheds on the A38 corridor in East Staffordshire.” Councillor Jacqui Jones, deputy leader, East
Staffordshire Borough Council, said the new scheme would create new jobs locally and also attract investment.

region as a ‘brand’ are endless. It raises the profile of Burton in a way no marketing budget could possibly match and will bring us to the centre of attention. “It will make a difference for the town's hoteliers,
attractions, restaurants and bars because the people that attend these events are not just the fans but the sponsors behind these football teams.” Burton Albion was founded in 1950 and have
only been a football league club since winning promotion from the then Conference in 2009. The club followed this with promotion from League 2 at the end of last season, and they secured their place in the Championship for the first time ever by drawing 0-0 at Doncaster Rovers, who were relegated. Among those at Doncaster for Burton’s
promotion winning draw was the Chamber’s director of membership services, Russell Jeans. Season ticket holder Russell attended the game
with his son, Sefton, 11, along with the youngster’s grandmother, Pauline Glover. Russell said: “The hard work of the team and
management staff in reaching the Championship League cannot be overstated. “Burton Albion is an incredibly cohesive element
within the Burton community and one should also celebrate the incredible work that its community programme does within the themes of participation, social Inclusion, disability, education and health.”
Performing arts
comes alives Creative learners at Burton and South Derbyshire College (BSDC) recently held their Unite Performing Arts Festival at Brewhouse Arts Centre. The annual festival is

BSDC said: “We are proud of how the Unite Performing Arts Festival has grown over the years. The festival is a great opportunity for our students to perform and for the local community to get involved in a fantastic project. “A range of people from schools,
