Award winner tells of boost in confidence

Alice Price, a family lawyer at Birmingham- based HCB, who last year won the inaugural Future Face of Greater Birmingham award, gives Chamberlink her views on her work – and what it means to win such a prestigious accolade.

What’s your day job? My day job mostly involves securing divorces and financial settlements for my clients, with a particular focus on high net worth clients, cases involving business assets and foreign property. I also manage cases dealing with child arrangements, pre-nuptial agreements, disputes between unmarried couples and people undergoing surrogacy.

What do you like most about your job? No two days are ever the same! I am out and about in courts across the West Midlands and beyond most weeks and when I am in the office I have a varied and busy caseload.

If you weren’t doing what you were doing, what other job would you have? I have recently renovated my own home so would have quite liked to go into property development. I am also a qualified ski instructor so would try to fit in a few ski seasons around projects!

How did you become involved in Future Faces? I attended a Future Faces event in Lichfield and thought the idea was so great that I signed up straight away and haven’t looked back since.

Which of the FF events have been your favourite recently? The recent Leadership Series has been great both from a development and networking perspective.

How has being part of the awards helped raise your profile? In terms of exposure it has been great, particularly in terms of online and Chamberlink coverage both before and after the annual dinner and awards. It has also given me additional credibility when dealing with clients, colleagues and third parties, many of whom have commented on it having seen the various media articles.

How has winning the award affected your career so far? The initial interest that it generated – particularly from referrers – has certainly helped me reinforce and expand my network, which will be really helpful in the future. I have also recently been promoted to the role of associate, which I would attribute in part to the award and the confidence that it has given me.

Director is focused firmly on the future

One of Birmingham’s leading visitor attractions – Millennium Point – has appointed Future Faces member Ian Leslie (pictured) as its new finance director, just at a time when management is charting its development for the next 15 years. Ian, who will now oversee a four-strong

finance team, said: “This year is Millennium Point’s 15th anniversary and a lot has happened in that time. “The next 12 months represents a busy

period where we are setting out the agenda for the next 15 years and my main priorities for the months ahead will include focusing on projects and initiatives that will allow Millennium Point Property Ltd and Millennium Point Trust to embrace those future opportunities,” he said. “It’s an exciting time and we’ll be looking at the gearing of the business, investment for and within the building and creating a platform for our events business to grow.” Ian, who joined Millennium Point last year

as a senior finance manager, added: “It’s an honour for me to be finance director and I look forward to working with the executive team, and my own team, to make this a destination that Birmingham can be proud of.” Rather than opting for university, Ian, who

is aged 30, started as an apprentice in the finance section of WM Housing Group (then Whitefriars Housing), where he became a qualified accountant. “The experience gained during those years was priceless and I’m glad I made the decision I did. I truly believe academic achievement is an important factor for personal development, but I found for me that experience counted for so much more.” Before Ian stepped up to become finance

director at Millennium Point, the role was taken by Judith Armstrong, who is now chief executive office, having succeeded Philip Singleton. Meanwhile, Millennium Point, which is home

to Thinktank Science Museum, has confirmed that it is to sponsor the ‘Future Face of
