Greater Birmingham’s leading companies

Aardvark to Rohlig’s rescue

A Longbridge-based marketing company has devised a campaign to raise the profile of a Solihull firm. The ‘unknown’ firm is logistics

firm Röhlig, which has its global head office in Germany and a UK base at Highlands Road, Solihull. However, their UK-based

telesales team found that when they were ringing potential customers in the UK, nobody knew who they were talking about. Gill Hutchinson, of marketing

company Aardvark, who was called in to help put this right, said: “I was hired initially because, although the company has a global reach, the central marketing team are based in Germany and there was very little marketing activity here in the UK.” In order to raise the company’s

profile, Aardvark devised a major marketing campaign for Röhlig. Gill said: “We want to ensure

that there is full integration between marketing, telesales and sales activities with a gradual increase in interaction with the sales team as potential customers move through the program.”

Making a splash at dragon race

A city centre-based finance company is sponsoring the annual dragon boat race at Edgbaston Reservoir. The company is supply chain

finance expert Obillex, and the race, on 5 June, will feature 20 teams on a 200- metre course. The event is being arranged by

the Rotary Club of Edgbaston. Proceeds from the race will go to two charities, St Mary’s Hospice and Papyrus, which works for the prevention of young suicide. Damian Crowe, CEO and founder

of Obillex, said: “Obillex had an outstanding experience both as a participant and sponsor of the Rotary Club’s Dragon Boat race last year. It served as an important opportunity for our employees to improve communication, teamwork and confidence.”

Five-star service for local deafblind people

Park Regis Birmingham, the city’s newest four-star hotel, has linked up with national charity Sense, to raise funds to support people with deafblindness and sensory impairments. The charity is currently building a £14 million

resource centre in Selly Oak, TouchBase Pears. Designed to accommodate deafblind people, the

centre will offer a range of services to help individuals learn new skills, build confidence, develop communication skills and take part in community- based activities. The facility will also provide arts and well-being services, a family and children’s area, a nursery and cafe. Park Regis has joined forces with the charity to help

raise vital funds to support the ongoing development of TouchBase Pears. Through a programme of events during the next

year, both staff and guests of the hotel will be encouraged to get involved to raise awareness of deafblindness and help Sense achieve its £5 million fundraising target for the centre. Robin Ford, general manager at Park Regis

Birmingham, said: “Sense is a charity whose roots started here in Birmingham back in 1965 with one of the first units for deafblind children. Now it is a leading charity delivering support for deafblind children and adults.

‘All of the staff at the hotel are incredibly excited about this partnership’

“The TouchBase Pears centre in Selly Oak is only a

short distance away from Park Regis and as a new development in the city, it seemed fitting that we help a new local service realise its goals. “We are also looking forward to working closely with

the charity to learn ways in which can provide a more inclusive experience for our deafblind guests. “All of the staff at the hotel are incredibly excited

about this partnership and we look forward to working with Sense throughout the next year.” Sense chief executive Gillian Morbey said: “Sense

welcomes the prestigious new Park Regis Hotel to Birmingham and we are delighted to be selected as the hotel’s new charity partner for the forthcoming year. Their support will help us to raise funds to build TouchBase Pears, a major new centre for people with disabilities and the community. “This exciting collaboration will benefit many people

in Birmingham and we look forward to working with Park Regis on several fun and interesting events over the next 12 months.”
