Tel: 01634 861237 email: clerk@boxleyparishcouncil.org.uk Website: www.boxleyparishcouncil.org.uk Contact details for parish councillors can be obtained from the parish office, the Useful Contact Details leaflet or the website Warning after

burglaries PCSO Matt Adlington warned the parish council that there had been a spike in crime, mainly in the Walderslade/Lordswood area. Burglars had been obtaining

entry to property through incor- rectly closed and therefore un- locked UPVC doors. Not only valuables but also car keys and then the cars have been stolen. Residents are reminded that on

some UPVC doors, the handle must be raised to the vertical posi- tion to ensure it is adequately locked. Failure to do this means that in some cases a UPVC door can be opened with a screwdriver. PCSOAdlington said it would be helpful, if anyone knew of an eld- erly neighbour or family member with this type of door, that they en- sure that they are locking it prop- erly.

How to make an entrance

WAYS of enhancing the ap- proaches to Sandling and Boxley villages will be investigated. Councillors were notified by a resident that Sandling Residents Association had folded, but had unspent funds of about £3,000 which it would like to be spent on beautifying the entrance to the vil- lage, perhaps with a gateway. It was agreed that borough Cllrs

Wendy Hinder and Derek Butler and the parish clerk would liaise with the resident in contacting Kent Highway Services about the suggestions. A proposed village entrance had

not been progressed at Boxley vil- lage and Cllr Lynn Clark would li- aise with residents about what they wished to see there.

Audit update

THE parish council will be en- tering the public review stage of its audit, commencing on June 8 and ending on July 18. Further details will be posted

on the council’s website and noticeboards and residents are able to inspect the accounting records for the 2015/2016 finan- cial year.

New officers elected to serve parish council

BOXLEY Parish Council has a new Chairman. Cllr Bob Hinder (pictured) was elected to the role at the coun- cil’s annual meeting on May 9, after the previous chair- man, Cllr Ivor Davies, decided not to stand for the position.

On taking over as chairman, Cllr Hinder thanked Cllr Davies for all his hard work during the last four years. Cllr Davies continues to serve as

a member of the parish council and his expertise will not go towaste as he was elected chairman of the fi- nance and general purposes com- mittee. Cllr Lynn Clarke is the new vice-chairman of this committee. Cllr Vic Davies was elected vice- chairman of the parish council and will also chair the estates commit- tee with Cllr Ivor Davies as vice- chairman. Cllr Wendy Hinder was re- elected chairman of the environ- ment committee, Cllr Paul Dengate as vice-chairman. A new councillor, Matthew Rad- cliffe-Godfrey was elected and joined many familiar and re-elected

members. Speaking of his chairmanship,

Cllr Ivor Davies said it had been “a rewarding, if demanding experi- ence”, starting with the 2012 Royal visit for the opening of theWeaver- ing Diamond Jubilee Orchard. In his report to the annual parish meeting, he said that other high- lights included obtaining village green status for perpetual protec- tion of Walderslade Woodlands and the purchase of land at Dove Hill for what are now flourishing allotments. He thanked the parish office staff

and fellow councillors for their valuable support.

Communitywork recognised Kestrelcam

AT the annual meeting of the parish held on May 9, Robert Burrows was presented with the 2016 Kent Association of Local Councils’ Community Award. Rob was nominated

for the award by parish councillors in recogni- tion of his sterling work as a member and then chairman of the Walderslade Wood- lands Group. The departing chair-

man, Cllr Ivor Davies, said: “It is an honour to be able to present Rob with this award as with the support of the volunteers the woodlands are in amarvellous condition and are a wonderful asset for the community and wildlife.”

Rob Burrows (left) with Cllr Ivor Davis Warning to dog owners

THE parish council will put up no- tices to remind residents that dog waste can be put in domestic bins as well as Maidstone Council litter bins. An investigation of overflowing

dogwaste from bins has shown that some residents are clearing waste from their gardens and taking it to a dogwaste bin. Not only is the sight of an over- flowing bin distasteful, it is also a health hazard. The parish council is also high-

lighting that pet owners need to clean up after their dogs when using local woods. A few irresponsible owners usingVintersValley Nature Reserve, Walderslade Woodlands, Weavering Heath and Weavering Diamond Jubilee Orchard appear to consider wooded areas as dog toi- lets.

The parish council would like to

thank responsible dog owners and is politely asking all dog owners to monitor their dogs when they are in wooded areas.

BOXLEY Parish Council’s grant to KentWildlife Trust for a kestrel box and camera at Tyland Barn, San- dling has resulted in some wonder- ful views of the resident family with their five chicks. You can fol- low the drama by viewing the live pictures, between 10am and 4pm, on the trust’swebsite at www.ken- twildlifetrust.org.uk
