Pupils at Bow Road Primary School have raised money to help these children in Syria, with whom they have been communicating

recognised for our hard work to im- prove achievement and our Chris- tian ethos which places great value on the inclusive warmth and care demonstrated within our school.” The inspectors also recognised the

school for its strong community links, both nationally and interna- tionally, at a time when ties have been forged with refugees in Syria. Year 5 pupils have been paired

with classmates north of Tripoli to help them with their English skills and the school has given £350 to- wards fares to school for the poorest Syrian children and to fund a field trip for another 25 students. Mrs Crawford-Usher said: “We

wanted to show we are thinking about the Syrian children caught up in the conflict and thatwe care about them and their education. The idea began as our Lent Appeal - giving uppocketmoneyfor Syrian children – and we are still receiving dona- tions from the children today. “I alsowanted to break down cul-

tural and geographical barriers by establishing conversations between the children where they can share ideas and dreams and come to re- alise that there is more that binds them than separates them.” The school will be staging its an-

nual musical evening on Tuesday, May 24.
