Film screening under the stars
KINGS Hill is to have its first open-air cinema screening, thanks to two local ladies who hung up their commuting coats to set up Alfresco Events this year. Joanna Hillcock and Lucy Cumming have turned their dream of run-
ning their own business into an idea straight out of the movies, by creat- ing occasions for the public to enjoy a night under the stars with their favourite celebrities. Their first screening at
Kings Hill, where they both live, will be a shared favourite and a classic, Dirty Dancing – the 1987 Hollywood classic starring PatrickSwayze and Jennifer Grey.
Joanna and Lucy are hop-
ing it will be the first of many such events. Joanna, from Hazen Road, and Lucy, from ForestWay, both worked in London – Joanna as a marketing executive and Lucy as a project manager for a city bank. The two young mums say Kings Hill, with its fantastically supportive community and the perfect location for larger scale outdoor events, was the ideal place to launch their new venture. “We are really excited about this event and the response so far has been fantastic,” said Joanna. The ladies have also won the backing of Kings Hill developer Liberty Property Trust and Bespoke Swimming Pools, also based in Kings Hill. Dirty Dancing is being shown at the Kings Hill Sports Park on Friday,
August 12. Food and drink will be available from 6.30pm and during the film, which starts at 8.45pm. Tickets are £13 and available online at

downsmail.co.uk Boxer’s boost for Becs
SNODLAND welterweight George Hennon (21) handed over £340 to Larkfield friend and fellow “fighter” RebeccaWatts following his latest boxing victory. George (pictured), who continued his unbeaten run at York Hall in London, pledged a quarter of his match prize to the 41-year- old cancer sufferer, who plans to take her children Alfie and Mason to Euro Disney. More money was raised on the supporters’ coach on the way to the Bethnal Green boxing venue and following publicity in the Downs Mail, which prompted an influx of donations on The Becs Factor appeal site. Rebecca, who is a huge fan and
often travels to see George fight, has been described by the boxer as an inspiration in the way she has bravely fought her own battle against cancer. “It’s like nothing fazes her,” he
said. This time it was George who FREE
failed to be fazed by the efforts of Bulgarian fighter Danny Donchev, beating him on points 40-36 to secure his third win in the paid ranks. The 147-pounder is straight back
in training, having found increased support from sponsors and with his next fight in Essex on July 1.
