Where I live...
West Malling Parish Council West Malling Village Hall’s annual general meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 25 at 7pm in the village hall and will be followed by the quarterly committee meeting. Members of the public and those who hire the hall are warmly invited to these
meetings. The village hall committee is looking for more volunteers to help safeguard the future of the village hall and its many links with the West Malling community. The hall already enjoys Hallmark level 1 and 2 status and the committee is working towards achieving level 3. Recent work includes the annual spring clean, refurbishing the hall floor and modifying the heating system in the committee room.
Maceys Meadow One of the welcome signs of spring in West Malling is the arrival of lambs in Maceys Meadow. Sadly, this year this has been delayed due to thoughtless dog owners letting their pets chase and worry the sheep. It is against the law to let your dog be dangerously out of control and a Court could determine that you pay an unlimited fine or be sent to prison for up to six months. However, your pet could pay the ultimate price and be destroyed. Please keep your dog under control at all times and if that means keeping it on a lead at least you, your pet and the sheep can continue to enjoy the spring sunshine in Maceys Meadow for many years to come.
Get involved
WEST Malling Parish Council currently has two vacancies resulting from councillors resigning to move house and to enjoy retirement.
The council is a very active one in the community and would welcome applications from residents interested in getting involved in the community life of the town.
During the next year the parish council will be particularly concerned about influencing the Tonbridge & Malling Local Plan which will set out where building should take place up to 2030.

The parish council is also heavily involved in identifying better parking facilities for residents, shoppers and visitors.
If you are interested in helping with this important work, please write to Carole d’Silva, the parish clerk at 9, High Street, West Malling ME19 6QH giving us some information about yourself and why you would like to be a councillor.
Three council members will be meeting any interested people to discuss the work of the council and answer any questions you may have.
Dog fouling West Malling Primary School has successfully launched an afternoon extension to the walking bus scheme. It’s making a positive impact on traffic congestion but is encountering difficulties with dog fouling on the pavement in West Street. Tonbridge and Malling Council’s dog warden has already updated existing signage and this will be supported by similar signs spray painted on the pavement itself. Please note that although the startlingly coloured biodegradable paint can remain clearly visible for some time, its staying power does depend on weather conditions. The dog warden intends to reinforce the signs with increased patrolling in the area. Remember – if your dog fouls and you don’t clear it up, you could be liable to a fine of up to £80.
Vacancies and volunteers There are vacancies for two West Malling parish councillors. If you want to do something positive for the West Malling community and are at least 18 years-old, this could be the opportunity for you. The parish council always welcomes fresh enthusiasm and a willingness to learn so if you are interested, please contact the parish clerk for further information.
West Malling Parish Council has been advised that More Park Catholic Primary School also has a vacancy; this one is for a community governor. A good governor has
common sense, is interested in education and can make a commitment to spend time in the school. You don’t need formal qualifications but must be over 18 years- old and further information is available on the
www.kent.gov.uk website (search for become a school governor) or from More Park School.
For the first time in a number of years,
West Malling Parish Council’s allotments site in Ryarsh Lane has a vacant plot and no waiting list. If you would like to take on a tenancy, please contact the parish clerk for an update on availability.
Community Speed Watch is run by volunteers to highlight excessive speeds on local roads by using a speed indication device at the roadside. More volunteers are urgently needed so if you are aged 18plus and would like to volunteer for roadside duties in West Malling, contact the parish clerk to register your interest.
And finally The parish clerk can be contacted on 01732 870872 during office hours or why not come to one of the monthly meetings in the Village Hall in Norman Road? Full details of the 2016 schedule are available from the parish office in The Clout Institute, 9 High Street, West Malling.
