TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND
I was born in Cambridge and that is where I still live.
I left school at
16 and went into banking. In 1997 I bought a recently closed deli, whilst still working for the bank as a hobby. I moved to working in the deli full time from 2001.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO OPEN AN ITALIAN DELICATESSEN?
The love of panettone to start with (back then it wasn’t so easy to buy!). This led to a love of all things Italian - the food, wine, language, country and the people.

It’s great now, as inside the shop it’s as if you are in Italy, with all the benefits of living in England outside. Much as I love all things Italian, I wouldn’t want to live there, because of bureaucracy, corruption and inefficiency, it would drive me mad!
IN SHORT, RUN US THROUGH YOUR AVERAGE DAY. I’m still pretty much hands on, so I arrive at the deli at 8, and set the shop up. I ensure internet orders and catering jobs are out by 10.30, then the reps start calling in and then the deliveries - we have over 100 suppliers so the
