Electronic Drug Test Processing
Finally Available for Regulated Employees
Tens of millions of drug tests are processed each year for truck, tractor- trailer and bus drivers who are regulated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), yet sample collection and processing technology has traditionally lagged behind the private sector—until now.
electronic forms. Tracking status online eliminates time spent calling for updates. Online scheduling and testing allows for tighter controls on notifications, time of test, and in general, the window of time a person has to complete testing. Electronic forms are ideal for employers with centralized hiring. Regional and national HR centers can select multiple test types and cost codes without having to inventory and ship multiple forms.
• Electronic forms improve the drug testing experience for both candidates and employees. Candidates can schedule tests at a location convenient to them, and employees no longer have to worry about keeping (or losing) the testing forms.. Tey’ll be able to easily access an online collection site and simply walk in for the screening required. Because electronic forms greatly reduce collection errors,

employees are less likely to experience a form error or recollection requirement— saving valuable time. Employers who may be concerned about
the operational impact of this change should know that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which oversees SAMHSA, is not requiring collection of any new or different information; the only change is the mechanism used for tracking collection and transmiting results. In addition, labs need to be inspected and certified by the HHS National Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP) before implementing eCCFs. This proven technology is faster,
easier, more cost-efficient, reliable, greener than paper CCFs, and its implementation by federally regulated employers is a welcome—and long overdue—advancement.
