GETTING TO KNOW

BY ADINA YOUNG, DATIA

Getting to Know: Scott Taillie, “Presented By” 2016 Conference Sponsor, Alere

Above all, I am looking for another fantastic week of camaraderie, education, and

reconnecting with old friends and colleagues from the industry.

Since the last conference, what drug and alcohol testing issues have been most on your mind?

There are several things

that come to mind as the industry is currently going through some changes. There is the emergence of new designer and synthetic drugs that are gaining a foothold in society, the problems with prescription drug abuse and the resurgence of heroin. The increasing legalization of marijuana and the emergence of roadside testing is another major issue. There are many factors that are making this time in our industry more important than ever to prevent and limit the effects of drug and alcohol abuse on our society. The largest change, since last year’s

conference occurred within the United States workplace testing market. After decades of processing DOT-regulated drug tests via paper forms, we now have the ability to utilize Electronic Custody and Control Form (eCCF®) in regulated testing. I am very excited that a paperless and consistent eCFF process for regulated urine collections can now be used as we have done for non-regulated testing for years.

Why do you sponsor DATIA Conferences each year and what have you gained from your sponsorships?

For Alere, sponsoring DATIA conferences is important for us each year and something to which we always look forward. It gives our team a chance to connect with customers and colleagues

that we may not get to see throughout the year. Many of the relationships that have been formed at the DATIA conference go back 20 years, and I think one of the unique aspects is that in this industry, whether you are a customer, prospect, colleague or competitor, we all come together as one at the annual conference. Additionally, we use the opportunity to

showcase our portfolio of solutions and to announce many new or upcoming products.

When conference hours are done, where will we find you? Are you an adventurer on the high roller? Will we see you on the ziplines? Or at a casual bar, night club dancing, etc.?

Ziplining sounds like fun and I am always up for a good adventure but most likely you will find me in a casual bar with some good friends and conversation. If we can find a spot with some live jazz—even beter.

Next year (2017), we will be at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, FL. What do you most look forward to there?

I am excited to visit the property as it will be my first time there. The Rosen Shingle Creek has a plethora of activities for members to enjoy before or after the conference including swimming, tennis, golf and great walking around their nature trails. I also like the fact that it is a pet-friendly property, and while mine will not be with me, I can look forward to seeing other four-legged friends around. Above all, I am looking for another fantastic week of camaraderie, education, and reconnecting with old friends and colleagues from the industry.
