LETTER FROM THE BY LAURA SHELTON, CMP

Spring is in the Air I

can’t believe that the 2016 Annual Conference is already here. Going through major planning of both the conference and this issue of DATIA focus while suffering through a blizzard in Washington, D.C. (I think the massive pile of shoveled snow

in my front yard will have just melted by the time you read this) had me keeping my eye on the joy of reading this issue and seeing everyone in Las Vegas for DATIA 2016— Double Down for Success. In reading this issue of DATIA focus, I am reminded why the spring issue of DATIA

focus is always my favorite. It features articles written by conference speakers and sponsors that elaborate on their conference sessions and messages. What better way to provide back-to-back education? Plus, for those not able to attend the conference, it provides a great deal of education and information that attendees received. I am pleased to report that again this year DATIA was able to provide numerous

scholarships to deserving members to attend the conference. A tremendous THANK YOU is due to the many people and companies that donated to the Diana Bauske Educational Scholarship Fund this year. This very important program has enabled so many people to receive education and give back to the industry in Diana Bauske’s memory. This is a major reason why I love serving in a leadership position for DATIA. Yes, it is a competitive industry, but DATIA members understand and respect the notion that to educate and uplift all makes the entire industry better. For this, I applaud all DATIA members. Looking at this issue, I must say that I am impressed by the variety of articles.

From collection site audits to customer service to background screening to marijuana legalization to synthetic drugs to psychoactive drugs to training to legal issues to alternative specimens—there is something in this issue for each and every member to gain insight, education, and new ideas. I trust that you will enjoy this issue of DATIA focus and hope that you find inspiration

from the many articles and topics covered.  Best,

Laura Shelton, CMP DATIA Executive Director

CORRECTION: In the winter 2016 issue of DATIA focus, the article “Drug and Alcohol Free Workplaces—Blue Prints & Best Practices,” indicated that the FMCSA requires the removal of a CMV driver for 24 hours if the donor’s breath alcohol test confirms at 0.04 or higher. The number should be 0.02 or higher. We regret this error.
