Getting to Know: Aaron Atkinson, “Presented By” 2016 Conference Sponsor, Quest Diagnostics

Since the last conference, what drug and alcohol testing issues have been most on your mind?

Te issue that’s been most

on my mind is the economy and the way it impacts our industry. Unemployment rates are at pre-recession lows, and as employees get hired, they get drug tested. But at the same time, certain sectors, like oil, gas and mining are sputering. Tese safety- sensitive industries do a lot of testing, and we’ve certainly felt the impact of slowed hiring and fewer tests. Additionally, while employees tend to change jobs more frequently when the economy is good— leading to more drug tests over the course of an individual’s career—we’re also seeing higher turnover within our business as employees depart for other opportunities.

Why do you sponsor the DATIA Conferences each year and what have you gained from your sponsorships?

We spend a lot of time at Quest Diagnostics talking about our core value and commitment to showing our clients, our coworkers and the industry that we’re there when you need us. Supporting DATIA as a conference sponsor, and also as an exhibitor, an advertiser, a content contributor, a board member and a presenter, is perfectly aligned with our organizational values as we believe in DATIA’s mission and we’re proud to have our name associated with this organization. Our association with DATIA has also

afforded us a number of important benefits including avenues by which to build our

brand, to reinforce a position of thought leadership and to share critical content with peers in the industry.

When conference hours are done, where will we find you? Are you an adventurer on the high roller? Will we see you on the ziplines? Or at a casual bar, night club dancing, etc.?

When DATIA conference hours are over, you’ll find me doing three important things. First, one of the very best reasons for atending DATIA’s conference each year is the connections and the relationships it affords. I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends, and to making new ones. Second, Las Vegas is the best city in the entire world for people watching, and I plan to do my fair share. And third, with a one year old at home, I’m looking forward to catching up on a few full nights of sleep and watching something on television other than Big Bird or Mickey Mouse.

Next year (2017), we will be at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, FL. What do you most look forward to there?

Orlando is one of my favorite convention cities. As much as I’m looking forward to geting away from Mickey Mouse this year in Las Vegas, I’m even more so anticipating a visit to his Florida hometown (perhaps along with that aforementioned emerging fan) next year. 
