more than 700 attendees. I remember like it was yesterday: April 1997 in Alexandria, VA at our first conference. This meeting served as a beginning to bring together participants in the drug and alcohol testing industry to discuss current and pending legislation as well as other issues affecting the entire industry. I immediately knew that as the owner of Houston Medical Testing Services (HMTS), and now in this industry since 1989, I wanted to actively participate in this new fledgling organization. So when the call went out for trainers to develop the Certified Professional Collector Trainer® (CPCT) course, I immediately applied, and as they say: “the rest is

involvement with DATIA is acting as Chairman of the Education Commitee since its inception in 2010. Te Education Commitee is not only the largest commitee within DATIA but one of the most active. I truly encourage and invite any DATIA member with a passion for improving our industry through beter education of its service providers to join and participate in this important commitee. Responsibilities of this commitee include: updating the annual exam that collectors take to be certified through DATIA; helping DATIA staff to secure webinar topics and speakers; initiating new training courses; approving topics and speakers for the annual conference; and helping to administrate the Diana Bauske Educational Scholarship Fund. I firmly believe that we get out of any organization what we put into it, so whether it is this commitee or another one of our seven commitees that speaks to your passion, I encourage you to get involved and enjoy the full benefits of your DATIA membership. Tis involvement is what led me to where I am today with DATIA. I give much of the credit to DATIA for helping me make my company a successful business in this industry. Another very important part of
DATIA is our Board of Directors, which is made up of members who provide a diversity of experiences, attributes, and perspectives. Having this broad representation from the industry on the Board, in my opinion, helps us to stay in touch with our membership by listening and responding to what they tell us is important. A heartfelt thank you
goes to our outgoing Board Chairman, Phil Dubois of DrugScan, Inc., who has guided and inspired each one of us on the Board for the last two years as Chairman. Having served with Phil on the Board since 2010, I appreciate how he handled the toughest challenges with grace, providing a steady hand, and giving the Board consistent direction. Tanks also go out to the other
Executive Commitee members that I have served with as Chairman-elect the last two years; Andy Powell of Nursing Corps as Treasurer and Scot Taillie of Alere Toxicology as Secretary. In addition, each Board member has made significant contributions in chairing or co-chairing the commitees on Legislative and Regulatory; Technology; Communications; International; Education; Membership; and Marijuana. And of course, I must recognize our
dedicated DATIA Management Team: Kristina Queen—Program Director; Emily Gilcher—Membership Director and Adina Young—Communications Manager for their responsible management and Laura Shelton, our Executive Director, for the strong leadership she has provided for many years. This team works diligently with our membership to build an organization that continues to grow and change in order to meet the needs of our industry. So as I take on this huge responsibility
as DATIA’s first “Madame Chairman,” I would ask each of you to help make DATIA an even better organization by getting involved, following your passion, and seeing where it leads! Respectfully yours,
Sherri Vogler DATIA Chairman
