limited, but if you need a logo, landing page, letterhead, website, T-shirt design, book cover or a Powerpoint theme, take a look. The site provides an easy-to-understand menu and helps you understand expectations for different levels of prize money. Similar, but limited to logo design, is logotournament.com.

Need a logo? Create an account, answer the interview questions and put up a prize. Yes, it IS a tournament! Range for prizes is $275 up to $875. Te more you put up, the beter your options will be. The beauty of the above two sites is that you get to view a lot

of choices from different designers before selecting one you like. And before you pay.

Examples You can get freelancers from more than one service, and the following are some projects you can use them for: 1. You can hire virtual assistants overseas, for instance in India. Virtual assistants can be individuals, or a business with a staff of professionals who can handle simple Wordpress edit- ing, graphic design and data entry. And $5 an hour (some are more) is a bargain. You can even have them enter your kids’ sports schedules into your Google calendar. Some virtual assistants can manage your social network

posts, product research, travel arrangements and more. If their native language is not English, you have to be careful how you use them, or hope they get it 80% correct and plan on editing. The best thing to do is to come up with a list of the types

of things you want help with. Put together a job description that is as detailed as possible, then hire one. Virtual assistants are nice because some have more than one skill.

2. You can also find a YouTube video editor overseas. Once you find him/her, you can send them raw footage with very specific instructions, and adds text and other effects. It’s not Hollywood, but it gets the job done.

3. There are even virtual accountants. Many accounting plat- forms are cloud-based, so it really doesn’t matter where your bookkeeper is. Make sure they understand U.S. tax law.

4. For a corporate wellness screening last year, I had to have some forms translated into Spanish and Polish, and found affordable native speakers to do that online. The Polish form was only $20.

5. Every now and again you may come across some gems! One person I hired and his team are geniuses with Wordpress. They have helped me implement and solve a number of e- commerce issues, a well as general website troubleshooting. They cost a little more than the others at $25 per hour, but that’s still a fraction of what a local expert would charge.

6. If you want an informational (a.k.a. “explainer”) video, you can find someone for that as well. We got one made for the low price of $65. On a personal project, my dad wanted to record his life

history for his family. He’s not much of a typist, so he made an audio recording, which was easy for him. And for $10, I had it transcribed to a Word document.

You’re limited only by your imagination. Most of us don’t

outsource enough. It takes some time to get comfortable with it, but it’s prety exciting when you assign a project at 6 p.m. as you are planning to go home and it is completed through outsourcing while you’re sleeping!

Risk Is there some risk using freelancers that you never meet? Sure there is. But all of these services have a payment system that protects

all parties. In general, you work out your deal with the provider and agree to price and scope of work. Te buyer puts the money in an escrow account and the provider begins work. You can communicate through the service, where there is a record of your conversations, or you can communicate via Skype chat or email. Also, and this is important, all of these providers rely on

getting 5 star reviews, so the good ones will work hard to earn them. Keep in mind they also get to review you as a purchaser, so you’ll want to make sure you are professional and fair.

Lessons Learned Not all experiences are great. Be sure to check reviews thoroughly and define the project specifically. Don’t fall victim to hiring the wrong SEO and PPC expert and end up getting a lot of traffic from spam websites. Make sure you get your money’s worth when hiring writers to write blog posts and text for your website. Eventually you learn that many buyers are reluctant to post negative

reviews, so if you see a provider with a lot of completed, un-reviewed projects, it may be a red flag. Te more thoroughly you define the job and your expectations, the

beter your results will be. If you decide to try it, start small, and let me know how it goes. 
