The only emergency number to remember
A Europe-wide single emergency number initiative has been hailed ‘excellent’ by Birmingham business experts. Craig Biffen from the Europe Direct
Birmingham team praised European 112 Day, a project launched on 11 February to help people in crisis. The day saw different awareness and
networking activities organised throughout the EU in order to promote the existence and use of Europe's single emergency number. 112 is the European emergency phone
number, available everywhere in the EU, free of charge. Craig said: “This is an excellent
initiative across Europe if you are involved in or witness an accident that requires the emergency services, trying to remain calm and remember that particular country’s emergency number can be difficult.” It is possible to call 112 from fixed and
mobile phones to contact any emergency service.
