Awards shortlist announced F


BY JOHN LAMB The massive boost to retailing in Birmingham in recent months has prompted the introduction of


the award. The event is expected to attract 1,000 guests with broadcaster Gyles Brandreth back by popular demand as host and keynote speaker. A shortlist in seven categories has been drawn up and four judges were involved in choosing the


winners from hundreds of entries. They were Alan Gilmore (head of acquisition and retention at Police Mutual), Russell Jeans (chair and business services director at the Chamber), Professor Mark Gilman (professor of SME growth and development, Birmingham City University) and Jayne Hussey (partner, Mills & Reeve). Mr Jeans said: “We extremely grateful for the hard work put in by the judges. They were


particularly careful to ensure every entry received detailed examination and consideration.” Chamber events director Henrik Court said: “The judges commented on the high quality of

the award entries this year, which recognise the achievements and success of businesses across the region.”

ATP ATRS Ltd: ATP is a Cannock based business which is a re-manufacturer of automatic transmissions and vehicle electronics. The company exports all over the world – exports makes up two thirds of its business, and its products are shipped to some 35 countries. Birmingham Business School, University of Birmingham: A research led, multi-disciplinary, international business school which is developing a new generation of global business leaders and entrepreneurs. It also has an international call centre based in Romania, which supports users in 15 European countries.

Bullring: A management team of 21 full-time employees manages Bullring, where over 6,000 people now work. The centre has continued to attract high quality brands with newcomers including Diesel, Kik and Bill’s as well as investment in stores, among them Zara, River Island, Topshop/Topman, Mango and Debenhams. Isaac Charles Bridal House: Following the overwhelming success of the company since launching in New street on January, 2014, it has now launched a second boutique in Poynton, Cheshire. Over the past three years, sales have grown from about £3,000 a month to £20,000 a month. Selfridges Birmingham: Over the past three years Selfridges has been undertaking the transformation of its store through a £20 million “masterplan” of redevelopment, overhauling its shopping experience for customers. The store is home to more than 100,000 product lines and over 700 brands. Touchwood Shopping Centre, Solihull: Facing growing competition, Touchwood is fully let and has attracted some top new businesses, including Telsa and O-Bag. Touchwood has experienced an increase in sales of over 3.5 per cent in 2015 and nine per cent over three years despite footfall nationally being in decline
