An inspirational

new initiative One of this year’s major initiatives from Future Faces, a series of inspirational training events, was launched in style when members found themselves discussing teamwork and how they and their colleagues could make meaningful contributions towards a successful business. At the inaugural session, which was facilitated

by Jason Langford, managing director of Lucid Group, a business improvement and leadership development practice, delegates completed a Belbin profile test, the results of which helped members to understand their business personality profile and learn how to play to their strengths. Future Faces vice-president Chris Pile said:

“We are bringing key business leaders to members to share their experiences in leading organisations within the region and I would advise all members to participate.” The events, sponsored by Glide, Lucid Group

and Millennium Point are being staged in partnership with the Young Institute of Directors. Free to members of both organisations, they are being held at the Birmingham city centre offices of Squire Patton Boggs. Other guest speakers will include Paul Thandi,

chief executive of NEC Group and Paul Faulkner, chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce.

Committee members line up to tackle the challenges of a new year

New committee rise to the challenges

T

he development of a new ‘policy guide’ is one of the tasks facing Future Faces president Adam Maguire and his 2016

committee. With input from committee members, Adam,

who now also takes his place on GBCC Chamber Council, is preparing the guide in order to determine key policy objectives and priorities for the remainder of the year. The main areas of focus will be the attraction

and retention of talent to the region, career starters and early career development, young professional skills gaps and assistance for young entrepreneurs. Adam, who is a solicitor with Brierley Hill-

based Higgs & Sons specialising in matrimonial and family law, said: “We are focusing on high quality training events aimed at improving essential business skills for young professionals and people at the early stages of their careers. “These events, combined with our more

informal social networking events which are aimed at strengthening the networks of young professionals and entrepreneurs in the region, really reflect the policy areas that we have identified as our focus for the coming year.” Already, the new committee has organised a

leadership development series, a trip to Brussels ahead of the EU referendum and is currently planning the annual dinner and awards.

Katie’s road to Brussels

A former Birmingham student will be telling members of Future Faces how her professional career has taken her on a journey from King Edward VI Handsworth School to the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) in Brussels. Katie Owens (pictured) is now working as a press and communications

officer with the European People’s Party within CoR and she will be discussing her role when a delegation from Future Faces, accompanied by Chambers director of policy Henrietta Brearley, is given a tour of the European Parliament next month, ahead of the EU referendum.

Katie went to the University of Sheffield, where she graduated in 2014 with a degree in Germanic

Studies and Dutch, as well as developing a strong interest in European and local cultures. Members fly out on 6 April and return the following day. For further information contact Kate Evans 0n 0121 607 1836.
