FEATURE: EXECUTIVE SEARCH & RECRUITMENT
Midlands revives with its own home-grown successes such as JLR; coupled with inward investment from elsewhere in the UK like HSBC; and Birmingham recently ranked highly by Site Selection as a destination for international businesses including Changan Automotive, the competition to appoint management and professionals within the region will warm up. Businesses thinking of going to the market for senior
management should prepare themselves for some unwelcome news. Executives that can make a difference are not accepting offers that fit with settled existing pay structures. They can and will demand packages and futures that make a move compelling. Few such people are looking for or indeed need a new job, as they will already be enjoying good rewards and great prospects with their current organisation. Executive search is therefore the most likely approach to succeed in drawing them into a conversation about an opportunity to progress, but with a new organisation. One thing is as certain, such people do not send
speculative applications, routinely upload their CVs to databases, nor do they complete online forms on websites. Least of all, great people do not react well to being ignored, misled, or in any way made to feel undervalued in a recruitment process. In short, hiring those that will have a profound effect on a business should be regarded as a major investment and - as befits all such investments - advice from experienced professionals can make all the difference.
