Tesco in Dunblane now has a public access defi brillator in the store and staff have been trained in its use.

Tesco store manager Russell Brown said, “We’re very pleased to help out with something like this which could potentially save a life.”

Fundraising for the new defi brillator was done by Tesco Dunblane and the local emergency medical charity Dunblane First Responders, who also provide training in its use. The defi brillator is kept at the customer service desk.

The defi brillator is very easy to use. In the case of someone being in cardiac arrest you should fi rst dial 999 and ask for an ambulance. Once the defi brillator is switched on it will give the user clear verbal instructions every step of the way.

“Tesco is a very central point in Dunblane and we are open long hours so the defi brillator will be available a lot of the time,” said Mr Brown. “It gives peace of mind and hopefully it will never have to be used. “

Maureen Simpson, who works for Tesco and is also a volunteer with Dunblane First Responders, said, “No-one should be scared of using a defi brillator. CPR along with early defi brillation are key in the chain of survival.

defi brillator is always available all the hours Tesco is open.”

There are now a total of four public access defi brillators in Dunblane. As well as the one at Tesco, there is one inside the Westlands Hotel on Doune Road,

there is one inside the

Riverside Restaurant on Stirling Road, and a 24/7 one in a wall box at the front door of the Dunblane Centre at the other end of Stirling Road.
